SUSAN BEVINS

September 8, 1956 — July 15, 2019

Susan Anthea (Bernard) Bevins was born on September 8, 1956, in Aylesbury, England, to Hugh Howard and Hilda Bernard. After three or four years, Hilda Bernard was married to John Carrol Robinson, who at the time was in the military, and the family traveled extensively. After a short time in the USA and going through a few academic years, she lived with her grandparents in Trinidad for a couple of years. Afterwards, she moved to Houston, TX, where she graduated from Sterling High School at the age of 15.

After starting college at 15, she worked in the nursing field with her mom. She then went through a nursing program, where she met Mae Nelson, and they became lifelong friends. Afterwards, she went on to continue her studies at Southwestern Union College (now Southwestern Adventist University). With one four-year old son in 1984, she said yes to Raymond C. Bevins’ proposal of marriage, and they were united in marriage on November 21, 1984, in Houston, TX. To that union was born one son, William N. Bevins. Their church home was Berean Seventh Day Adventist, where they were very active members until they moved in 1992, to Keene, TX. Susan then completed the nursing program in 1995, at Hill College in Cleburne, TX, and worked for the next 17 years in the nursing field. Her career mirrored her everyday life, helping and giving to others. At Emmanuel SeventhDay Adventist Church in Cleburne, Texas, she was very active and served as: Church Clerk, Deaconess, Prayer Ministry Director, Prison Ministry Co-Director and a CVCA (Certified Volunteer Chaplain Assistant), Women’s Ministry Member, Prison Ministry Bible Study Correspondence Worker, Sabbath School Teacher, Family Life Certified Co-Coordinator, but first of all, she was a devoted wife, mother, friend, and servant of God to whom she gave all praise, honor, and glory. Susan A. Bernard-Bevins is survived by: father, Hugh Howard; husband, Raymond C. Bevins; sons, Andre McCarthy (Ramona), and William N. Bevins (Sabrina); grandchildren, Jayde, Zola, Nylah, and Jaylon; siblings, Rochelle, Delbert (Johnnie), Ronald, and Franchelle (Ehric); and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and other relatives direct and indirect.

Special Note: As an organ donor, she was able to help three other people survive herself.
