ANDREW JOHNSON

May 28, 1956 — September 7, 2021

Andrew “Pop” Johnson was a quiet and self –reserved person who cared deeply for his family and friends. He was meek in character and dedicated himself to his work.  He made time for aspiring young athletes within his family, attending their basketballs games and other functions.  He loved sports, westerns, and his dance moves. You always felt loved after seeing Andrew as he warmly greeted each one with signature nicknames that he gave them. Those that knew and loved him will miss his laughter, his tenacity for the Dallas Cowboys and his kindness.

Andrew Johnson was born to Ben and Jeanette Johnson on May 28th 1956 in Memphis, TN.  He was the 7th child.  He grew up in the New Chicago area where he dedicated his life to Christ as a young member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.  The basketball, All Star, as the Commercial Appeal, weekly raved, graduated from Manassas High School in 1973.  Although, he was short in statue when compared to his Tiger’s teammates/ competitors, he was swift on his feet and received recognition throughout the state for his talent. His passion for the game led to scouts and college recruits.  In 1988, he packed his family and 2 young children, Treva and Marcus and moved to Dallas, Texas.

Andrew Johnson quietly transitioned September 7, 2021 in the comfort of home, at the age of 65. He spent his final days with his loving family and long time devoted friend, reminiscing often with laughter and good cheer.

He is survived by: Mother, Jeanette Deberry; Daughters, Tameka Armstrong and Treva & Nicole Harris; Son, Marcus & Setresa Johnson; 8 Grandchildren; 6 Great Grandchildren. Siblings: Harry Linsey, Vella Noel, Dorothy Deberry, Alma Holmes & Earnest Johnson. A host of relatives and dear friends.
