Arthur Thomas, Jr., affectionately known as "Mac", passed away on July 13, 2026 in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 96. Born on June 26, 1930, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Arthur Thomas Sr. and Katie Gray-Thomas.

Mac lived a life defined by service, dedication and an unwavering commitment to those around him.

Mac proudly served his country in the United States Army, retiring after 21 years, 7 months and 29 days of distinguished military service. Following his retirement, he continued his dedication to public service as a Post Master Clerk for several years, earning a special achievement award in recognition of notable performance. Never one to sit idle, Mac founded Mac's Landscaping Service,, beautifying the grounds of several local businesses. His love of beauty extended to his own home, where he adorned his yard with flowering pots and elaborate Christmas decorations that delighted his family, neighbors and passersby alike.

A natural leader with a humble yet commanding presence. Mac served as leader and treasurer of the Corinth Group, President of his neighborhood Council and a faithful member of Grace and Truth M.B.C. He cherished social card games, word and board games with family and friends. An avid fisherman and a devoted football fan. Mac possessed a one-of-a-kind personality that left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

His devotion to family was evident in every gesture, including the honor of walking his stepdaughter down the aisle on her wedding day.

Mac was preceded in death by his father, Arthur, mother, Katie and his son, Arthur (Donnie) Thomas, II.

Mac leaves to cherish his memory his devoted stepdaughter, Cheryl Ann Hicks-Thornton (John) and very personal friend, Frederick Louis Gipson (Kim). Cousins Donald Wiley (Lynette), Charles Wiley (Lanell), ClaraBell Stewart. Caretakers Kay Oguntona and Kim Grant from Pro Link Agency.

God saw you were getting tired, and a cure was not to be. He put His arms around you and whispered, “come with me”.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held on August 3, 2026 at 1:15 p.m. at DFW National Cemetery.
