ARTIS DAVIS

November 4, 1950 — September 8, 2020

Artis Louise Davis was born November 4, 1950 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Mr. Artis Davis and Mrs. Alma Washington Davis.  On the morning of September 8, 2020 our Lord wrapped Louise in His loving arms and proclaimed ‘You are free of pain, sorrow, and worry, come home with me’. In God’s Kingdom, Louise was reunited with her parents Artis and Alma Davis.  She is once again enjoying the company of her brothers Flenory Frazier, Melvin Douglas and Lonnie Davis.  Louise was most certainly hugged and kissed by her niece and several of her nephews whom she dearly missed when they preceded her in death. She was baptized of the holy spirit and while she was not very religious, she believed in the Savior and thanked God for his many blessings over her life. Artis Louise Davis attended Caddo Parish Schools in Louisiana and Graduated from Booker T. Washington High School.  She worked over 20 years for SSBA aka MBNA as a data operator. Louise was a devoted mother and we, her daughters, let it be known that “ The love of our mother is the veil of a softer light between the heart and the heavenly Father. Mother is the name for God on the lips and in the hearts of her children. A mother’s very existence is a child’s first indication of sovereignty with God.”  Mama taught us to have confidence and belief in ourselves. She knew from experience how important it was for us to feel whole, strong and grow with an esteemed value of ourselves.  Mama didn’t always agree with everything we did but she supported our decisions even while saying, “Sent you to school and what you do, eat the books?” Louise was simply amazing, a captivating soul with a lot of humor all bundled up into one marvelous package. Her generous yet no nonsense spirit encouraged many and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who were blessed to have known her. Her family and friends could count on her loyalty, and it didn’t matter what you had gotten yourself into she would find a way to have your back.  This chapter of her life is not a ‘goodbye’ but a ‘see ya later’ until we are reunited by His grace and mercy. Left to cherish her beautiful life are her daughters, La’Shonda Hawkins (Ro Cantu) of La Grulla, Texas; La’Shannon Davis of Desoto, Texas; 6 grandchildren, Joshua Alonzo (Brenda) of McAllen, Texas; Christopher Alonzo of La Grulla, Texas; her only granddaughter, Kayden Davis, youngest grandsons Jacob Hawkins-Cantu, Mike’l Hawkins-Cantu, Johnro Hawkins-Cantu; 2 great grandchildren Desmond James and Oliva Elizabeth Alonzo; sister Mrs. Lillie Cunningham (Christopher), and brothers Tommie Douglas (Alice), Rev. James Washington, Sr., Rev. Johnny Washington, Billy Washington and Deacon Artisco Davis (Linda). Extended family and friends Sister Rosie Jackson (Roy), LaShalla & Leigh Ann Brown, Priscilla Pettis and a host of nieces and nephews.
