Obituary

Barbara Ann Dixon, a vibrant soul whose life was a testament to joy, resilience, and profound kindness, passed away on April 13, 2026, in Dallas, Texas—the city where she was born on March 13, 1938, and where her extraordinary journey began. A beloved school teacher in the Dallas Independent School District, Barbara's legacy was etched into the hearts of countless students and colleagues, standing as a beacon of mentorship and unwavering support.

Educated at Booker T. Washington High School and Paul Quinn College, Barbara carried forward her passion for learning with an infectious enthusiasm that brightened every classroom she entered. Her career was not simply a vocation but a calling: teaching and mentoring were the proudest accomplishments of her life, crafting futures and nurturing minds with patience and a way with words that few could rival.

Barbara possessed a happy-go-lucky spirit, complemented by a very outgoing and funny nature. She never met a stranger, greeting the world with a blunt honesty wrapped in loving care. A loyal friend, a spiritual and God-fearing woman, she offered guidance as a mentor and gave generously of her time and heart. Those who knew her remember a woman whose impact was immeasurable, defined by the deep impression she left on others.

Her interests were as diverse and lively as her personality—traveling to new places, indulging in card games, shopping, savoring good food, and settling in to watch game shows and cop dramas filled her leisure hours with delight. These pastimes were moments of joy that echoed the fullness of her spirit.

Barbara’s family was the center of her world, and she is survived by her beloved son, Dion Dixon; her daughter-in-law, Dayna Dixon; and her cherished grandchildren, Jourdan A.C. Dixon, Bryanna (Ben) Duca, and Katelynn (Ryan) Leyva. Her love extended to her great-grandsons, Maverick Leyva and Callan Leyva, as well as her nephews, Glenn (Linda) Harvey, Brady (Tammy) Herod, and Errin Harvey, and niece Donna (Charles) Johnson, all of whom carry her spirit forward with deep affection.

She joins in eternal peace her husband, Ananias Dixon; her son, Michael Moore; and her siblings Lavarn Loftis, Carrie Jones, Mollie Fletcher, and Henry Moore, who preceded her in death, leaving memories that now blend into the tapestry of her life’s story.

A viewing will be held on April 19, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Golden Gate Funeral Home-Dallas, located at 4155 S R. L. Thornton Freeway. The funeral service will follow on April 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the Allene Chapel of the same funeral home.

Barbara Ann Dixon’s life was a radiant symphony of laughter, care, courage, and wisdom, leaving footprints of love on every heart she touched. Though she has departed this earthly realm, her legacy continues to inspire and uplift—a timeless reminder of a happy-go-lucky soul who truly never met a stranger and forever will be missed.
