BARBARA ANN SMITH-GIBBS

Aug 12, 1939 — Oct 11, 2026

DALLAS, TX

Barbara Ann Smith-Gibbs, born on August 12, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away on October 11, 2026, in Dallas, Texas. She lived a life rooted in devotion to her family, and the everyday joys that made a house feel like home.

Barbara worked as a CNA, caring for others with the same spirit of commitment that shaped her own family life. A single mother whose love for her children and grandchildren stood at the center of her life, she poured herself into those she loved. Among her proudest accomplishments was seeing her children doing good in life, a blessing that reflected the strength, sacrifice, and encouragement she gave through the years.

She was a woman who enjoyed life in ways that brought people together. She loved playing cards, especially spades, and treasured family gatherings filled with conversation, laughter, and the comfort of being surrounded by those she loved. She loved to read novels, enjoyed shopping, and was known for her soul food, which surely made many moments around the table memorable. She also delighted in watching Steve Harvey on Family Feud and enjoyed westerns, simple pleasures that became part of the rhythm of her days and the memories she leaves behind.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Lamar Gibbs. Also, she was preceded in death by her sons Donald Thomas Jr.,Voldi Thomas, Just Gibbs, and her grandchildren Ivbran Martin, Jr. and Chaquanda Martin.

She leaves to cherish her memory a large and loving family: her daughters Donnett Thomas, Vonda Causey (Thomas), Barbarina Turner (Cedric), Shatibra Gibbs, Jada Gibbs, and Lamarra Gibbs; and her sons Darryl Thomas, Leroy Robinson, and Ivbran Martin and sister, Valerie Smith of New Jersey,  Also, she leaves behind 31 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews and many other loving relatives. Their lives stand as part of her lasting legacy, and the love she gave them remains woven through the generations. She will be remembered especially for her deep love for her children and grandchildren, for the care she gave so freely, and for the way she made family the heart of her life.
