BERNADINE KIRKLIN THORPE

March 7, 1959 — February 24, 2026

On February 24, 2026, the world lost a radiant soul, Bernadine “Dena” Kirklin Thorpe, affectionately known as “Queen” by those lucky enough to know her. She transitioned peacefully in Dallas, Texas, after a courageous battle with illness—leaving behind a legacy woven with love, laughter, and unwavering compassion.

Born on March 7, 1959, in Alexandria, Louisiana, Dena was a beacon of warmth in every room she entered. Her spirit was an embodiment of joy; her laughter infectious, bringing light to the hearts of all who were fortunate to cross her path. A certified Unit Secretary, Dena dedicated many years to the Dallas healthcare community, where her passion for helping others flourished. Her biggest heart turned every patient interaction into a moment of connection and care.

Dena’s zest for life was unmatched. Whether she was engrossed in a crossword puzzle, embarking on adventures with her beloved dogs Geraldine and Shelia, or cheering on her husband, son, and grandchildren at sporting events, every moment was a cherished memory. The rich flavors of her cooking brought friends and family together, creating a tapestry of love and shared joy. Above all, her family was the center of her universe, and she treasured every moment spent with them.

Now reunited in eternal peace with her departed parents, Leo Kirklin and Margie Aubrey Anderson, as well as her little angel Hiawatha, and brothers Donald W. Kirklin and Kirklin, Dena’s spirit shines brightly in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

She is lovingly remembered by her four children: Sheneka “Shun” Hayes, Stacey Thorpe, Gilbert Thorpe Jr., and LaNita Russell; her ten grandchildren: Chel’c Thorpe, Chassd’d Thorpe, Zamyriah Thorpe, Zyriah Thorpe, Jaylen Thorpe, Jayceon Thorpe, Raigan Thorpe, JaiDon Thorpe, Landon Wallace, and Jordon Thorpe; her adored great-granddaughter, Charm Henry; her affectionate sisters Carolyn Dotson (Ben), Constance Dotson, and Sandra Thomas; her special friends, Geraldine Bailey and Shelia Isham; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.

As we celebrate the beautiful life of Dena, let us honor not just her passing, but the countless ways she enriched our lives. May her legacy of love, kindness, and laughter continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
