BETTY MURRY

October 17, 1947 — July 31, 2020

Betty Louise Murry , born October 17, 1947 to the parentage of Faye Baby and Jesse Nelms i’m Dallas TX.  Betty was raised in Dallas Tx known as the Sunny South ( Queen City) where she attended Dallas Public Schools.

Betty met the love of her life in 1961, John Wesley Murry.  He captured her heart and he never let it go. On December 17, 1963 John and Betty started their life together.  This union produced 3 girls, Sharron Yvonne, Monica Cheree and Shanikwa Shanta.

Betty started her relationship with Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. Paul AME Church.  Betty joined Avenue Progressive Baptist Church where she was an active member.  She sang in the choir and worked in food/kitchen ministry. She later moved her membership to Southern Crest Full Gospel Baptist Church.  Due to health issues Betty attended service with her children at Bondage Breaking Ministry and Antioch Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. Betty loved to worship and praise God.

Betty retired from Sears & Roebuck after 17 years of employment.  After her retirement Betty discovered her true passion, cooking and baking.  Everyone loved her chicken & dressing , pineapple cake and sweet potato pie. She loved to cook for her family and friends.  With this passion Betty took her cooking skills to DISD as a cook.  She was later promoted to Cafeteria Manager at Phyllis Wheatley Elementary School.  Betty retired in 2004 from DISD.

Betty was loved by all of her family and friends. Not only because of her cooking & baking, but because of her great listening skills and motherly heart. She also gave sound advice.  Other hobbies Betty enjoyed was sewing and crocheting. Everyone got a stocking cap for Christmas.

Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharron Yvonne Beasley; her parents Faye Roberts and Jesse Nelms; 1 brother Jesse Nelms Jr.; 2 sisters Alice Nelms & Rosalind Ballard; 2 grandsons, Jeremyst & Jonathan Murry  and her great aunt/ second mother Revorda Board.

Betty leaves to cherish her memories: her husband of 56 years John Wesley Murry; 2 daughters, Monica Cheree Fore ( Antonio) and Shanikwa Shanta Murry; 1 brother, Rodney Nelms (Theresa); 10 grandchildren & 9 great grandchildren; 1 sister in law, Gracie Benberry (Ollie); 1 brother in law, Larry Ballard; special cousins Fredia & Avertis Willis Sr.; a host of other family members.  She had several Godchildren, too many to name but you know who you are.
