BEVERLY JO HARRIS

August 21, 1957 — May 23, 2026

BEVERLY JO HARRIS, affectionately known as "Baby Jo," was a radiant spirit whose life journey began on August 21, 1957, in Dallas, Texas, and concluded on May 23, 2026, in the same city that witnessed her many triumphs and joys. A woman defined by unwavering love, fierce loyalty, and an infectious smile, Beverly's presence was a source of comfort and happiness to all who knew her.

A proud graduate of Samuel High School, Class of 1976, Beverly furthered her education at El Centro College, where she earned an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Her dedication to serving her community was reflected in her commitment to the Dallas County Sheriff Department and later with the Dallas Independent School District Security Department. Her career also included her tenure as a banker with the Mercantile Bank Building in Dallas—a testament to her versatility and determination.

Beverly's personality was a tapestry woven with kindness and warmth. Known for the ease with which she lit up a room, she was always ready with a quick laugh or a comforting word. Her genuine love extended beyond family to friends and strangers alike. She nourished more than just souls; her home-cooked meals were legendary, a generous act of love she shared freely. A devout Christian, Beverly’s faith was the cornerstone of her being, guiding her through life with grace and steadfastness.

Her hobbies painted a vivid picture of joy and connection: from the sharp strategy of playing spades to the suspenseful thrill of watching “The First 48,” from the spirited dancing that highlighted her lively spirit to the camaraderie found in cheering on the Cowboys during game days and the friendly competition of bingo.

Beverly leaves behind a cherished son, Qwin’ton Harris, who carries forward her legacy. She is fondly remembered by siblings Lois Horne, Marilyn Horne, Oradell Copper, and Nathaniel Cooper. Her beloved grandsons, Anfernee Harris and Qwin’ton Harris, carry pieces of her heart in their smiles. Though her parents, Mellie Jean Cooper-Scruggs and Herbert Pryor, have passed on, their love in her life remains evident in the values she treasured.

In the quiet moments, one might find Beverly’s essence lingering in the echoes of laughter, in the warmth of a shared meal, and in the spirited dance of a celebration well-lived. Her life was a testament to loving hard, living fully, and giving generously—a legacy that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. Beverly Jo Harris was not just a woman of Dallas; she was a beacon—a playing card held close in the hand of those who loved her, forever treasured and never forgotten.
