Cassandra Denise Woodson, affectionately known as Denise, was born on April 4, 1963, in Dallas, Texas. She brought joy and laughter into the lives of everyone who had the privilege to know her. With a career as a chef, Denise poured her heart into every dish she created, using her cooking as a way to bring friends and family together. Her culinary talents were matched only by her vibrant personality, characterized by a rough and tough demeanor that was complemented by her outgoing spirit and witty sense of humor.
Denise’s educational journey took her through Paul L. Dunbar Elementary School, Florence Middle School, and James Madison High School—where she became known for her spontaneous nature and her knack for cracking jokes, a gift she inherited from her father. Life was never dull when Denise was around; she enjoyed mingling, playing cards, and dominoes, finding happiness in the company of her closest friends and family. Her love for travel was evident in her ventures to Mexico and California, where she even spent a significant time living in Mexico, immersing herself in new experiences and cultures.
Denise passed away on September 9, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas. She is survived by her loving daughter, Shajuan Woodson; her dear son-in-law, Darius Fontenette; her beloved siblings, Shawn Cooper-Steward, Philbrick Woodson, Sheila Woodson, Sherisa Williams, Malincka(sister-in-law), Ted (brother-in-law), and Calvin (brother-in-law); as well as her cherished granddaughter, Maraylia Woodson; her grandson, Jeremiah Woodson; and her great-grandson, Raheem Woodson. Denise also leaves behind her best friend, Debra Jones, god sisters and brothers, Gwendolyn Terrell, Twyla Hopkins, Celvin Hopkins and Lawrence Hopkins; uncle, Jerry Woodson Sr. of Nacogdoches, TX; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who adored her spirit and warmth.
Her passing brings a heavy heart to all who were touched by her love and generosity. Denise joins her late mother, Anithia Woodson; her father, Percy Willie Paris; her niece, Sheray Blanton; her grandmother, Lela Woodson; her grandfather, Ferd Woodson; and her godmother, Mae D. Mathis (Papa D. Mathis) in eternal rest.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life during a viewing on September 19, 2025, from 2:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas. A funeral service will follow on September 20, 2025, at 3:00 PM, also at Golden Gate Funeral Home.
Denise will forever be remembered for her unyielding love for her family, her infectious laughter, and her dedication to making those around her feel special through her culinary delights and genuine spirit. Though she may no longer walk amongst us, her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
