CECIL LORENZO PENNY SR

In loving memory of Cecil Lorenzo Penny Sr., who graced this world with his presence from June 16, 1965, until his untimely departure on November 18, 2025. Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Cecil’s journey was one woven with laughter, kindness, and unwavering loyalty. A beacon of strength and compassion, he proudly served in the U.S. Army Ranger third Battalion, embodying the ideals of duty and sacrifice.

Cecil carved a niche in the community as both a police officer and an independent contractor with the Dallas Morning News, where his intelligence and dedication stood as a testament to his work ethic. A graduate of Bryan Adams High School, Class of 1984, he transitioned from the classroom to the streets, always putting others before himself, a true protector and provider whose essence will forever linger in the hearts of those he touched.

An embodiment of warmth and humor, Cecil was more than just a friend; he was a confidant, a mentor, and a giver who believed in the power of forgiveness. He possessed an innate ability to light up any room, bringing with him an air of comfort. His playful spirit resonated deeply with everyone he encountered. "A man's man," he was, yet he remained the most approachable of souls—never one to show anger, and always seeking to uplift those around him.

In his cherished leisure time, Cecil found joy in reading and immersing himself in the digital worlds of video games, though nothing brought him greater pride than his beloved children: Cecil L. Penny Jr., Brandon Penny, and Amanda Penny. The love and devotion he had for them were rivaled only by that which he held for his grandchildren: Janae, Naomi, Za’riyah, and Ari’elle Penny. In their laughter and smiles, Cecil saw reflections of the proudest accomplishments of his life—his legacy that will carry on through the generations.

Family was paramount to Cecil. He shared a special bond with his siblings James and Joyce Penny, and Robert Jackson who, alongside his children and grandchildren, will forever remember him not just as a family member but as the cornerstone of their lives—a good and dedicated friend to whom they could always turn.

As we gather to honor Cecil in the days ahead, we invite those whose lives he enriched to join us in a prayer service at Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas on December 4, 2025, at 7:15 PM, followed by a funeral service, which will commence the next day at 11:00 AM. As we remember him, let us embrace the joy he brought into our lives, celebrate the love he shared, and find comfort in the beautiful memories that will forever echo in our hearts. Cecil Lorenzo Penny Sr. will be painfully missed, but his spirit will resonate in every smile and act of kindness shared in his memory.
