Charlie Jean Bowser was born March 23, 1948, in Kilgore, Texas to parents Charlie and Nancy Mae Thompson.
At an early age, Jean and her mother moved to Fort Worth where her mother was united in marriage to Proctor Ladd. She received her education primarily in the Fort Worth Independent School District and was proud to be an I.M. Terrell High School student. During her senior year, she and her family moved to Houston where she graduated from Evan E. Worthing Senior High School. After graduation, she attended Texas Woman’s University and earned her bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Jean had a heart for people and found joy in helping others. She had a gift of encouragement and felt called to reach and inspire women and teenage girls. She served countless families during her career with The Salvation Army, American Red Cross, The Women’s Center, Texas Department of Human Services and Texas Workforce Solutions.
While in high school and out one evening, Jean was introduced by a mutual friend to a handsome young man named Alvin driving a ‘55 Chevrolet. The two had an instant connection. That evening, before departing she inquired, “Aren’t you going to ask for my phone number?” Jean and Alvin spent time getting to know each other before leaving Fort Worth to attend college. They later reconnected, and after a brief courtship, the two united in marriage on December 21, 1968. To their union, they welcomed a son and two daughters. Jean embraced her newfound role as a homemaker and found pleasure in baking for her family. She raised her children to treat others with dignity and respect and was a personal cheerleader for all their endeavors.
Jean served proudly alongside her husband in ministry. Together they pastored Faith Christian Fellowship and sought to fulfill the will of God by assisting numerous churches around the metroplex. She found joy in communing with other believers and was always eager to attend small group meetings with members of her church.
Jean loved to laugh and found humor in the little things. She enjoyed various genres of music and looked forward to live concerts. Her smile lit up a room, and it never shined brighter than when she received fresh flowers. She was an enthusiast of animal print clothing or shoes as well as glitzy jewelry and bold perfume. She was so pampered by her husband that she developed a fondness for being catered to. This expectation extended to her colleagues and family, earning her the nickname “Queen Jean”, which she embraced whole-heartedly.
She loved unconditionally and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Charlie Jean Bowser passed into eternity on November 10, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Thompson, Nancy and Proctor Ladd; aunts, Claudia Warren and Lois Warren; cousin, Nathan Howard; godson, Derrick Williams.
