Clarence Dillard was born to Mr. and Mrs. George Dillard on November 14, 1941 in Houston, Texas. His mother died soon after he was born. George later entered into marriage with Irene Lewis, who became the mother Clarence adored. They spent time grocery shopping and cooking their favorite soul food meals. These were two of his passions.
Clarence was a good student throughout school. He excelled in math and science, with algebra being his favorite. Clarence also enjoyed football. He went from playing street ball to making the team in Junior and Senior High School. His good school grades, and football talent earned him a full scholarship to Prairie View A&M University. While attending college, his major was Engineering. Through some unfortunate circumstances he did not finish college, but always remained a faithful member of the PV Alumni. He even supported their efforts to rebuild. and expand the campus. His devotion and contributions were greatly appreciated, helping to make the school what it is today.
Through hard work and determination, Clarence became a truck driver for Yellow Freight Trucking Company in Houston, TX. He started out by loading trucks, but later moved up to driving. When Yellow Freight moved to Dallas, he also transferred there. Retiring after over 20 years of service. Clarence was known as “Bull” by his fellow Truckers. To his family, and friends he was “June Bug” or just “Dillard”. You could even tell Clarence by his walk! We will never forget his Fifth Ward Stroll, representing our neighborhood. Fifth Ward Texas! He had a special nickname for everyone that was just between you and him.
Clarence met his wife in Dallas, where they lived for many years. She is a talented Hair Stylist, cook, and loving caregiver, Bobbie (stepchildren, Marvina Thompson, James Sykes and Lawanna Sykes). Clarence and Bobbie raised two of her grandchildren. Tomarco Royal, and Tevin Smith. Clarence, and Bobbie enjoyed many trips together in Texas attending alumni banquets, and celebrations with family & friends.
Clarence is survived by his two brothers, John and Connie Dillard. Along with two sisters, Garrie Clayton, and Sandra Etheridge; nephews Reginald Clayton, James Etheridge and two nieces, Katrina Clayton-Outlaw and Shana Etheridge. There are also two great nieces: Tiara Clayton, and Semaj Outlaw and five great nephews Daniel Clayton, Josiah Clayton, James Outlaw, Avery Etheridge, and Triston Etheridge. There are also many cousins and friends. We will all miss him and his wide smile. We will never forget. We mourn his loss.
