CLYDE LAKEITH GRAY Sr.

May 6, 1955 — Apr 28, 2026

With heavy hearts and profound respect, we gather to remember and celebrate the life of Clyde Lakeith Gray Sr., a man whose vibrant spirit and unwavering zest for life left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Born on May 6, 1955, in Refugio, Texas, Clyde’s journey came to its close on April 28, 2026, in Tyler, Texas, leaving behind a legacy brimming with love, laughter, and resolute character.

Clyde’s life was a tapestry woven with the threads of dedication, passion, and an unmistakable spark that brightened every room he entered. A proud graduate of Refugio High School, Class of 1973, he soon answered the call of duty, serving his country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1974 to 1981—a chapter he counted among his proudest accomplishments. His time in uniform was a testament to his discipline, courage, and deep sense of commitment.

After his military service, Clyde ventured into his professional career, contributing his talents to Docutel Corporation and LTV. However, it was his personality—outspoken and guided by a very good heart—that truly defined him. Known for doing things his way, Clyde was ever the life of the party, ensuring those around him were joyful and cared for. His laughter was infectious, his stories captivating, and his presence commanding attention yet inviting warmth.

A true cowboy at heart, Clyde found solace and joy in raising cows and horses, embodying the spirit of the open range. His love for football, especially cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, was a cherished pastime, often accompanied by his characteristic habit of "talking a little noise," much to the amusement and affection of friends and family alike.

Clyde’s greatest joy lay in making those closest to him smile. He was a steadfast pillar of support and a source of endless encouragement to his children—Clyde L. Gray II, Eryka Gray, Lakeisha Bussey, Chaumeika Morant, Lawanda Stonum-Smith (Shawn), LaFonda Stonum-Johnson (Brandon), and Dashone Walker. Among his beloved family were also his siblings, Carlos Gray and Yolanda Bircher, who cherish his memory deeply.

His spirit lives on vibrantly through a loving web of grandchildren: Keihlon Gray, London Gray, Jasmine Gray, Jahselyn Batiste Driver, Javionah Batiste, Curtis Batiste, Khristian Batiste, Rah’Mil Olvera, Ja’Shawn Brown, Ashanti Brown, Khaiylah Smith, Christopher Stonum, Kahlil Wilson, Taishawn Wilson, Makayla Stacey, Krystie Walker, and Rashawna Walker. Great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends, all hold in their hearts the memory of a man who listened with empathy, laughed without restraint, and loved without condition.

Clyde’s journey was not without its sorrows. He was preceded in death by his dear parents, Walter and Patricia Gray; his brother, Thomas Gray; and his cherished grandson, Tyler Gray. Their memories intertwine with his in a story of enduring love and legacy.

The community is invited to honor Clyde at the Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas. A viewing will be held on May 19, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a funeral service on May 20, 2026, from 11:00 AM, both at 4155 S R. L. Thornton Freeway, where friends and family will gather to reminisce and celebrate a life so richly lived.

Clyde Lakeith Gray Sr. was a man who embraced life with fearless conviction, spoke his truth boldly, and cared deeply for those around him.
