In Loving Memory of Damon Ivy Johnson
October 7, 1957 – June 21, 2026
On June 21, 2026, Damon Ivy Johnson completed his earthly voyage and began his journey home. A devoted man of faith, proud United States Navy veteran, loving father and grandfather, and dedicated servant to his community, Damon lived a life marked by service, perseverance, and genuine care for others.
Born on October 7, 1957, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Winter Ivy Johnson and Barbra Jean Read, Damon was raised in a Christian home where faith, service, and compassion were central values. Those principles would guide him throughout his life.
After graduating from Rider High School, Damon enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served honorably for more than seven years as a Journalist, Radio and Television Specialist, and Recruiter. His military service earned numerous honors, including the Navy Good Conduct Award, Navy Expeditionary Medal, and Navy Commendation Medal. More importantly, it strengthened the qualities that defined him: dependability, quiet confidence, and a commitment to helping others.
Following his military service, Damon continued serving through journalism, nonprofit leadership, housing services, mental health education, and youth development. He worked with organizations including the Dallas Times Herald, Volunteers of America, and the Eastside Boys & Girls Club of Wichita Falls. Throughout every chapter of life, he sought to encourage, guide, and support those around him.
A faithful member of Cedar Valley Church of Christ, Damon served through the Bus Ministry and Chorus and was known for his knowledge of scripture and unwavering faith. One message he shared often was simple: “Pursue Christ.”
Family was at the heart of Damon’s life. He is survived by his children, Karmonn Jackson, Kevah Johnson, Kastyn Johnson, and Kelaya Johnson; his grandchildren, Kwintin Johnson, Kya Byrd, Kwinc Byrd, and Kylee Osborne; his longtime companion, Lutisha Edwards; and many extended family members and friends.
Damon was preceded in death by his parents, Winter Ivy Johnson and Barbra Jean Read; his son, Kosby Winter Ivy Johnson; his brother, Terrance Marzett Johnson; and the mother of his children, Sheila Gizelle Johnson.
Damon’s legacy lives on through the faith he shared, the lessons he taught, the people he encouraged, and the family he loved. He will be remembered for his servant’s heart, steady presence, sense of humor, and belief in treating others with kindness and respect.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” - 2 Timothy 4:7
Fair winds and following seas, Damon Ivy Johnson. Until we meet again.
