DAVID LAVONE WASHINGTON

April 20, 1954 — April 6, 2026

David Washington was born to Mrs. Dorothy Washington and Mr. David Washington, both of whom preceded him in death. He was the oldest of ten siblings: George Washington, Rosemary Washington, Robert Washington, Sharon Johnson of Chicago, Illinois, Jerry McLaurin, Theodore Washington, Renia Johnson, Kelice Washington, Dorethea Cole, and Pearl Johnson. He was preceded in death by his siblings Robert Washington, Jerry McLaurin, and Kelice Washington.

Affectionately known as “Smokey,” David was deeply loved by his family and friends. From an early age, he carried a strong sense of responsibility, helping to support his family.

At 19, he began building a life of his own and later relocated to California. He was married to Brenda Brown, and together they had three children: Jocka Brown (preceded in death), Corey Washington, and Rico Washington. He also fathered his daughter, Clarice Jackson (preceded in death).

Later, he returned to Louisiana and married his childhood friend, Gwendolyn Washington, and from this union, his daughter Kimberly Odukoya was born.

David was a hardworking man who provided for his family through many roles, including truck driving for UPS, FedEx, Old Dominion, and Fossil, as well as custodial work for City Square and St. Luke Community United Methodist Church. He also served faithfully at Corner Stone Church.

In his later years, he battled lung cancer with strength and resilience. Though the illness returned, his perseverance remained evident.

David will be remembered for his strength, growth, and dedication to his family. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched.
