Donnell Hogg, born on November 3, 1955, in Dallas, Texas, departed from this world on April 6, 2026, in the city that witnessed his remarkable journey. A steadfast truck driver by profession, Donnell was far more than the miles he traversed on the highways; he was a cherished soul whose life story is etched deeply in the hearts of those who knew him.
From the halls of L.G. Pinkston High School to the winding roads of his career, Donnell crafted a legacy defined not just by his work but by the warmth and vibrancy he brought into every room. He was the life of the party, known for his quick wit and humor that could light up any gathering. Though sometimes ornery, it was all part of the charm that endeared him as a protector of family and a man whose presence was unmistakable.
His love for life extended beyond his career; he was an avid fisherman and found solace in the soulful strains of blues music that seemed to mirror the depth of his own spirit. Donnell’s affinity for guns was another note in the complex portrait of a man who embraced both strength and tenderness.
Those closest to him remember his greatest pride lay in his wife and children—an enduring testament to his commitment and love. While his beloved wife, Avin Hogg, passed before him, his legacy continues vibrantly through his sons, Rodney Hogg and Gary Dwayne Hogg, who stand as pillars of his enduring influence. His family circle expands with his nephew, Gary Wayne Hogg; his brother, Kenneth Hogg; and his sister, Patsy Hogg (Stanley). The laughter and love he fostered live on in his grandchildren—Kailee, Khalid, Omari, Aamir, and Imaan Hogg—and his great-grandchildren, Kotomi Hogg and Xaelynn Gore. Surrounded by a host of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends, his spirit remains a guiding light.
Donnell endured the loss of his sisters, Barbara Thompson and Trudie Sirls, and brothers, Willie Hogg, Billy Hogg, Leslie Payton, and James McKinney, whom he honored through his unwavering love and memory.
As we prepare to bid farewell, the community will gather at Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas (4155 S R. L. Thornton Fwy, Dallas, TX 75224) for viewings on April 17, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM and again from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on April 18, 2026, at Denley Drive Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1519 South Denley Drive, Dallas, TX 75216, beginning at 10:00 AM. Following the service, the burial will take place at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, 1311 Murdock Road, Dallas, TX 75217, starting at 1:00 PM.
Donnell Hogg’s story is one of love, laughter, and loyalty. His legacy will forever echo in the family gatherings he so loved to host and in the hearts of those who were fortunate to share in the rich tapestry of his life. He was protector, jester, and beloved family man—an unforgettable spirit whose memory will endure like the blues he cherished, deep and resonant.
