DORIS WALTON

October 21, 1935 — August 5, 2025

Doris Jean Walton, born on October 21, 1935, in the vibrant city of Dallas, Texas, departed this world peacefully on August 5, 2025, at her beloved home, surrounded by the warmth of her cherished family. She graced the lives of many with her vibrant spirit, unyielding independence, and loving heart, leaving behind a legacy that will be treasured for generations.

A woman of many talents, Doris embraced a myriad of trades throughout her life, bringing both skill and care to each endeavor. From sewing and child-care to operating a candy house, and serving as a crossing guard for the City of Dallas, she was a steadfast presence in her community. Her commitment to service extended to volunteering at Lisbon Elementary School, where she touched the lives of countless children. Additionally, her affluent experience at Adam's hat factory showcased her versatility and dedication to hard work.

Doris was not only a formidable worker but also a nurturing homemaker who embodied the essence of family. Known for her exceptional culinary talents, her special dishes—chili beans with ground beef, chicken and dressing, and roast and pea salad—became the heart of family gatherings. As a family historian, she delighted in engaging her loved ones with stories and wisdom drawn from her rich life experiences. No guest ever left her home hungry, as Doris welcomed all with open arms and a plate filled with love.

Educated at Booker T. Washington, Doris carried herself with grace and poise, advocating for strength and independence among her family. A dedicated Christian woman and a pillar of her community, her fiery personality did not shy away from expressing her thoughts, fostering an environment of openness and honesty.

Doris is survived by her beloved children, Sandra, Patricia, Carl David, and Alphonso, along with her dear sister Betty Jordan and brother Charles Wooten. Her lineage continues to flourish through a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom carries forward her teachings of resilience and self-sufficiency.

She now joins her predeceased family members, including her parents, Willie H. Wooten and Katherine Brewer-Wooten, and her siblings, Hugh, Earl, and James, along with sisters Evelyn and Mildred, granddaughter Adrian, and niece Jolanda, in eternal rest.

In honoring the memory of Doris Jean Walton, we gather to celebrate a life richly lived—a life imbued with love, laughter, and an indomitable spirit.
