Dwight Derome Bell was the fifth-born son to the late Grover Cleveland Bell Sr. and Ruby Lois Gibson-Bell on June 10, 1957. He was born in Dallas, Texas. Dwight’s Christian journey and love of singing and ministry began with Love Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, under the leadership of the late L.C. Smith. Around the tender age of 6, his passion for gospel music and ministry first took root. Dwight was one of the lead singers in the gospel group The Bell Boys. That same passion would later blossom into a lifelong devotion to sharing God’s word through both song and sermon. He served in music at Faithful Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, under the leadership of Pastor NC Sargent. Later, his calling to preach and lead brought him to the Power and Authority Tabernacle in Grand Prairie, under the pastoralship of Apostle Willie F. Hughes, where he met and married his wife Deborah Washington of twenty-four years. To this union came 3 daughters and 4 sons. He continued his Christian faith at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth, under the leadership of Reverend AL Kennon. He took great pleasure in sharing his wisdom and mentorship with young boys and men. He was very influential in the lives of these young people.
He was educated in the Dallas school system. He attended South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas, Texas, where he excelled not only academically but also in athletics. In his early years, he attended Bishop College. As a gifted athlete, he displayed great talent at a young age. As a young boy, he played for the PeeWee leagues, which led to a lifelong love of sports. He was an exceptional basketball player for SOC and helped his team win the State Championship. During his time at SOC, he was coached and mentored by the esteemed Jimmy Gales. He was a standout player. He also devoted time to coaching PeeWee football, working alongside the legendary Deion Sanders and Emmitt Smith, sharing his love for the game and inspiring the next generation of athletes. His skills and determination on and off the field and court left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Throughout his professional journey, Dwight exemplified a strong work ethic and a heart for helping others. He began his career with Chemlawn Services Company in Dallas, Texas, where he was known for his reliability and dedication. He later transitioned into the financial sector, serving for many years as a trusted Loan Officer with MDC Mortgage. In this role, he took great pride in helping individuals and families achieve their dreams of home ownership.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Grover Cleveland Bell Sr. and Ruby Lois Gibson-Bell; one sister, Sandra Kay Bell-Lewis, and one brother, Wilbur Leon Bell.
He leaves to cherish his memory: wife Deborah Bell; one sister, Carol Jean Bell; sister-in-love, Jacquelyn Bell; four brothers, Grover Cleveland Bell Jr., Bob Wayne Bell Sr. (Linda), Jeff Curlin (Wanda), Felin “Jack” Bell (Dwayla), all of Dallas, TX; seven children: Shemeka Y. Webber, Dwight Turner, Keykowa N. Bell (Myra), and Shatoria D. Bell, Reghen Berryman, Reggie Washington, and Kevin Washington (Mar’kisha); six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to name. Special aunts and an uncle, Aunt Lottie Rush, Aunt Lois Marie William, Aunt Diane, and Uncle Frank Lankford, whom he loved dearly.
