With profound sadness and hearts full of remembrance, we announce the passing of GARY LAMON THOMPSON, lovingly known as “EAGLE,” who left us on August 14, 2026, in his hometown of Dallas, Texas. Born on October 14, 1964, in Dallas, Gary’s journey began and ended in the city that shaped his life—a life marked by vibrant presence, an unwavering smile, and a spirit devoted to bringing out the best in those around him.
To know Gary was to experience warmth, energy, and genuine kindness. He possessed an innate ability to light up every space he entered, his joy infectious and his generosity boundless. Family and friends would often marvel at how easily Gary would offer help, unfazed by circumstance, always the first with a hand extended and a heart open. His smile—living proof of a life well-loved—will be forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Gary was a proud member of the South Oak Cliff High School Class of 1983. His days at South Oak Cliff were filled with the laughter of friends, the thrill of youthful promise, and the formation of values that shaped his future. After graduation, Gary carried his school pride into every aspect of his life, cherishing the lessons and friendships forged during those formative years. He was a faithful member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Arlington, TX under leadership of Pastor McKissic, until health failed.
Sports and games remained enduring sources of joy throughout Gary’s life. A loyal Dallas Cowboys fan, he watched every game with the passion of someone who cherished both the sport and the camaraderie that came with it. Bowling nights and games of pool echoed with his laughter, and Gary’s enthusiasm for Madden games brought family and friends together, thus forging cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of those he played with.
Above all, Gary was a husband, father, son, and brother. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Thompson, whose unwavering partnership was the foundation of a loving home. Gary’s legacy continues through his children: his son Gary Overstreet, and daughters Kim Turner, Shontel Sanford, Krystal James, Chelsea Thompson, and Breonna Thompson. Each carries the memory of his infectious spirit and the lessons he imparted—lessons of compassion, resilience, and unwavering support.
The family circle remains strong with his mother, Lula Mae Thompson, whose guidance and love shaped Gary's character; his brothers Kenneth Thompson and Mark Thompson; and his sister Vickie Thompson, all of whom shared in his life’s joys and sorrows. Though the loss is immeasurable, their bond remains unbroken, fortified by every memory lovingly preserved.
Even in sorrow, Gary’s legacy is a celebration of life and love. He joins those who preceded him in passing: his father, Charles W Thompson Sr; his brother, Charles W Thompson, Jr; and his mother-in-law, Ruby Brunson. Their memory, intertwined with Gary’s own, speaks to a heritage of strength and togetherness.
As we gather to remember Gary Lamon Thompson—“Eagle”—let us hold close the gifts he left behind: the laughter, the hope, the endless willingness to help, and the kindness that made the world gentler for all who knew him. Though gone from our sight, his spirit soars on in the stories we share and in every act of loving kindness inspired by his example.
A memorial service to honor Gary’s life will be announced by his family. As we prepare to say farewell, let us cherish every moment and every memory; for in our hearts, Gary’s light remains undimmed.
