Gary Don Sapp, a quiet and gentle giant who carried himself with respect and dignity, passed away on March 20, 2026, in Dallas, Texas. Born on December 5, 1953, in Overton, TX, Gary’s life was a testament to steadfast dedication and humble strength.
Graduating from Overton High School in the class of 1972, Gary found his true calling as a truck driver—a career he cherished deeply and considered one of his proudest accomplishments. Behind the wheel, he was more than a driver; he was a steadfast navigator of life’s highways, embodying reliability and quiet perseverance.
Those who knew Gary remember him as a reserved man, always calm and very respectful to everyone he met. A gentle soul, he enjoyed simple pleasures that brought happiness and comfort to his life. He had a fondness for playing dominoes, watching Westerns, savoring soft chocolate chip cookies, and most importantly, relished gatherings with his family. These moments of togetherness were special chapters in his life, reflecting the warmth he held for those nearest to his heart.
Gary was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Roscoe and Nellie B. Sapp, and his sisters Lettie Merritt and Catherine Sapp. Though these losses left profound gaps in his life, Gary’s enduring spirit remained anchored by the love and connections he treasured.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Garlyndia Ford, and stepdaughter, Carletta Ford, who carry forward his legacy of quiet strength and unwavering love. He is also survived by his sisters Trina Sapp, Tina Sapp, Mary Willis, Melva Alford, Gaytha Smith, and Linda Kay Sapp; and his brothers Eddie Sapp (Sharmon) and Michael Sapp. Gary’s life was further enriched by the presence of special cousins Bonnie Craig, Beulah Polk, and Gloria Burrell, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends who hold his memory dear.
Family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate Gary’s life during the viewing on March 27, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas, TX. The funeral service will be held the following day, March 28, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Springs Chapel CME in Overton, TX.
