GASTON
MENDY
Feb 18, 1968 — Jun 11, 2026
Gaston Mendy, affectionately known to all as “Gas,” answered a higher call on Thursday, June 11, 2026. He passed away, leaving behind a legacy of profound impact, deep faith, and an unmatched commitment to his family and community.
Gas was born on February 18, 1968, to the late John (Jombi) Mendy, Awa Mendy, and the late Sally (Saba) Mendy. Raised with strong values within a loving family, he attended St. Therese’s Primary School and graduated from Saint Augustine’s High School in The Gambia. During his youth, Gas’s deep spirituality led him to join St. Peter’s Junior Seminary in The Gambia—a formative period that anchored the calm, honest, and compassionate demeanor he carried throughout his life.
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AND CAREER SUCCESS
Driven by a desire for higher learning and greater opportunities, Gas relocated to the United States to further his studies. He attended Navarro College before earning his Undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2009. He furthered his education by earning a Master’s degree from Amberton University in 2016.
Gas’s philanthropic spirit knew no bounds. He was an inaugural board member of JOYE, a non-profit dedicated to serving underserved children and communities, an organization he continued to serve and support faithfully until his passing. He spent his life dedicated to giving back, always working to strengthen and uplift those around him with a true spirit of service.
He is also survived by a large, loving extended family, including his brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and countless friends, colleagues, and community members whose lives carry his permanent fingerprints. He re-joins his late father, John (Jombi) Mendy, his late mother, Sally (Saba) Mendy, and other departed family members in eternal rest.
