George Henry Penny, lovingly known as “Woody,” passed away on October 24, 2026, in Dallas, Texas. He was born on June 13, 1942, in McGregor, Texas, and carried with him a quiet strength and unmistakable spirit throughout his life.
Woody was a reserved man who loved to laugh and who moved through life in his own way, with his own tastes and convictions. He liked what he liked, and those who knew him understood the steady authenticity that defined him. His presence was grounded and genuine charismatic, never met at stranger, friendly and his laughter brought warmth to the moments he shared with others.
He served his country in the United States Army, a chapter of his life that reflected duty and commitment. Beyond that service, Woody found joy in the simple pleasures that made life rich and familiar. He enjoyed going out to eat, passing time over games of dominoes, and following car racing. He also took pleasure in watching In the Heat of the Night, a pastime that surely brought him many hours of comfort and enjoyment.
Those who loved Woody will remember a man of quiet ways and enduring character, someone whose personality did not need to be loud to be deeply felt. He leaves behind memories shaped by laughter, routine pleasures, and the distinct way he carried himself through the world.
Family and friends are invited to honor his life at a viewing on November 20, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Golden Gate Funeral Home - Dallas, 4155 S. R. L.
