A Time to be Born:

Gerald Wayne Lucas was born on June 25th, 1950 to the late Lorraine Harden and the late Andy Lucas in Lake Providence, Louisiana. He was adopted and raised by his late aunt, Alice McDaniel and her husband the late Rev. L.E. McDaniel.

A Time to Live:

Gerald received Christ at an early age. He joined the Pleasant Grove #1 MB Church, where he was Baptized by his Father, Rev. L.E. McDaniel. Gerald remained faithful to his church where he served as a Deacon and worked on the Finance Team. As a child he would travel from church to church with his parents.

Gerald received his formal education in Madison Parish School System graduating from Reuben McCall High School, Class of 1968. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Alcorn State University. While in college, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served two years. In 1971, Gerald started his teaching career in the Madison Parish School System where he served as a teacher and an assistant coach. He later became a bus driver also. Gerald was a great father and grand-father. He loved seeing the accomplishments of others, notably his sons and daughter. He ensured that God, hard work and education were top priority. His love and support for his grandchildren were unwavering.

Employment and Organizations:

Gearld worked as a teacher, coach, bus driver, DJ, manager, undertaker and grill master. He was a member of the Madison Parish United Deacon Association and Oakwood Cemetery Board.

A Time to Love:

While in College, Gerald met the LOVE of his life, Rena Pearl Gill. On August 2, 1971, Gerald and Rena became one and remained one for 55 Years. To this union, two children were born, Latasha Sheree and Anthony Wayne.

The Final Moment:

On Friday Morning, March 27th, Gerald fell ill and was admitted to St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS. Gerald entered into Eternal Rest on Thursday Morning, April 2nd at 6:40 AM.

A Time to Rest:

Gerald was preceded in death by his biological parents and his adopted parents, brothers: Henry Simmons Jr., Llewelyn Simmons, Sam Lucas, Steven Lucas and Sonny Lucas, and sister Audrey Faye Simmons. Left to cherish his memories is a loving and devoted wife, Rena; sons Jeffrey Bynum, Anthony (Devae) Lucas; daughter Latasha (Dr. Michael) Hill; grandchildren, Toras and Myles Hill, Jeffery Bynum Jr., and Kassidy and Kaylee Lucas, brothers; Patrick, Charles, Keith, Sheldon and Demetris Simmons; sisters: Dorothy Houff, Kim Sue Smith, Carmel Hodge, Crystal Ross, Yolanda Small, Angela Stovall and Benita Turner; goddaughters: Andrell Bowman Cooper, Nichole Riggs and Shaquayla Lucas. Gerald also was the proud grandfather to his grand-dog Max.
