GERTRUDE PETERS, a beloved matriarch whose spirit radiated warmth and kindness, passed away on December 4, 2025, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 80. Born on July 8, 1945, in Mertens, Texas, Gertrude’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with care, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family.
An alumna of Katie Miller High School in Milford, Texas, Gertrude’s outgoing nature made her a cherished friend and confidante. She embraced life with an open heart, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her unconditional love for her children and grandchildren stands as one of her proudest accomplishments. Gertrude was an incredible mother to her son, Marvin Peters (Velma), and her daughters, Aretha Butler, Deborah Morgan, and Dana Lacy (Samuel). She takes with her the love of her 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, all of whom were immensely enriched by her nurturing spirit.
A woman of deep faith, Gertrude loved going to church and found joy in her relationship with God, which guided her through life's challenges. Her hobbies reflected both creativity and a thirst for connection—she delighted in cooking, solving word search puzzles, and reminiscing about her younger days playing basketball. Traveling also filled her heart with cherished memories, each trip narrating a story that connected her to loved ones near and far.
Gertrude was a source of strength and resilience, demonstrating what it meant to persevere through adversity yet remain ever so caring. She is survived by her beloved sister, Wilma L Webb, her sister-in-law, Doris Peters, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives who will carry her spirit forward in their lives.
In a poignant symphony of life, Gertrude now joins her parents, Frank Sr. and Luvenia Peters, along with her three brothers, Joe Alexander, Frank Peters Jr., and Marvin Peters, and her three sisters, Walter Mae Whitworth, Luvenia Smith, and Katherine Walker, as well as her grandchild, Kadiesha Morgan, who have gone before her.
The memory of Gertrude Peters will forever echo in the hearts of those she touched, her legacy of love acting as a guiding light for all who were fortunate enough to know her.
