Harvey Nelson, 74, of Fort Worth, Texas, departed this life on Tuesday, February 16, 2021. He was born on September 12, 1946, to the late Houston Nelson and Drucilar Hall Nelson in Chatham, Louisiana.
In addition to his parents, Harvey was preceded in death by his sisters, Thelma Duncan, Shirley Nelson, Glendia Nelson along with two brothers, Marvin Nelson and Houston Nelson Jr.
Harvey received his education in the public schools of Inglewood, California. He joined the United States Navy in the early 60’s and fought in the Vietnam War. After leaving the military, he was employed at various jobs to provide for his family.
In May of 1980, Harvey Nelson was joined in holy matrimony to Versie Rhodes Nelson in Inglewood, California. Two children were produced from this union: Latosha Nelson and Gregory Nelson. Their marriage ended in November 2003.
Mr. Nelson was a devoted member of Forest Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas for many years where he was the superintendent over Sunday School. He also attended Greater Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church for several years where he eventually met the love of his life, Martha Carter. Harvey Nelson and Martha Nelson wedded on September 10, 2011 and remained married until his demise.
Harvey is survived by his wife Martha Nelson; his children Latosha Nelson and Gregory Nelson of Fort Worth, Texas; four grandchildren Gregory Nelson Jr., Sarah Asemota, Aniah Nelson, and Elijah Asemota all of Fort Worth, Texas; one brother Bobby Nelson of California; father in-law James Randle, mother in-law Bertha Randle; four sisters-in-law, Gwen, Cheryl, Laynette, and Janice; two brothers-in-law, Kenneth and Keith all of Fort Worth, Texas; along with a host of nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.
