HENDERSON BOONE STEPNEY

Mar 7, 1940 — Jul 21, 2026

DALLAS, TX

HENDERSON BOONE STEPNEY, lovingly known as “Son,” passed away on July 21, 2026, in his hometown of Dallas, Texas. Born on March 7, 1940, in Dallas, his life began and ended amid the enduring warmth and familiarity of the city and the community that shaped him.

Henderson’s journey was defined by hard work, integrity, and devoted service. He spent his career protecting and serving his neighbors and community through dedicated roles at the Arlington Fire Department and Lancaster Fire Department. His commitment to helping others extended beyond the firehouse, as he brought diligence and respect to every task at the United States Postal Service, both as a janitor and a mailman. In his time at the TPL Company, Henderson continued to demonstrate the same steadfast work ethic and reliability that marked all of his professional life. Through these endeavors, he became a quiet pillar of his community, offering a steady presence and a helping hand wherever it was needed.

Those blessed to know Henderson understood his life was rooted deeply in family. He, was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Wanda E. Stepney, his sisters Dotsy Stepney, Doran A. Dean, Peggy McKnight, brother Melvin R. Stepney, is cherished parents Henry H. Stepney and Mildred Lecester Stepney, and three grandchildren whose memories live forever in the hearts of those they left behind.

He, is survived by his devoted wife, Beverly Stepney, who stood beside him through all of life’s seasons, celebrating joys and weathering sorrows together. He, was also blessed with a special and cherisher friendship of Vickie Hampton, whose love, loyalty and compassionate presence brought comfort and joy to his life.  His legacy continues through his children: Gary Stepney, Larry Stepney, Tracy Stepney, Debra Escalera (Carlos), Rene Jackson (Dwight) and Cassie Merritt (Michael) all of whom carry forward his lessons of humility, kindness, and resilience. Henderson’s loving sister, Carmen Stepney-Carter, also mourns his passing but remembers the bond of siblings that endured through the years.

Those closest to him recall not just accomplishments but the moments between: laughter shared over meals, stories recounted on porches, and the feeling of his steady hand in times of trouble. Henderson Boone Stepney lived a life of quiet impact, finding satisfaction in a job well done, a family’s laughter, and the simple joys that knit together a meaningful existence.
