HENRY LEE WASHINGTON

HENRY LEE WASHINGTON, affectionately known to many as  "Henry” departed this life on August 12, 2026 in Desoto, Texas at the age of 96. Born on February 9, 1930, in Madison County, his life was a tapestry woven with hard work, generosity, laughter, devotion, and love—a light that warmed every room he entered and a heart that welcomed the world.

To know Henry was to know a man whose presence was impossible to forget. He never met a stranger; every encounter was a chance for new friendship and a shared story. His smile radiated warmth, his eyes glistened with wisdom, and his words carried the cadence of experience—always willing to offer guidance or listen with patience. His boundless charisma made him a beacon within his community, and his trustworthiness was the cornerstone of the many relationships he built over the years.

A proud and devoted family man, Henry embraced his roles as father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend with unwavering love and dedication. He is survived by his beloved children: daughters Lillie Franklin, Ira Jean Oston, Ladonna Brooks Carr, Beverly Grace, Sharon McWilliams, Dawn Tarver, Norma Washington, Sheila Polk, and Teresa Coleman; and sons Henry O. Washington, Michael Washington, and Alan Washington. The joy of his later years was enriched by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the embrace of an extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins. His brother Jesse Washington and his sister Jessie Pearl McDaniel continue his legacy among us with steadfast hearts.

Henry was predeceased by his beloved wife Armie Lee Washington, whose memory was a guiding star through his days. He also now joins his father Napoleon Washington and his mother Beatrice Washington, as well as dearly missed siblings Lou Jewel Washington, Jesse Henry Washington, Mayphous Washington, Willis Washington, Napoleon Washington, Jr., Donell Washington, Veotis Wynn, and Ruby Jackson. His son Byron Polk preceded him in passing, and it is a comfort to think of their heavenly reunion.

A hardworking man all his life, Henry  built his career in construction. His hands shaped not only buildings but the futures of those he loved—laying strong foundations with every early morning, every honest day’s labor, every act of quiet giving. He was generous, giving, endlessly helpful—a true Good Samaritan, always ready to offer his home and his heart to family and friends alike.

In the tapestry of his life, Henry wove joyful threads of laughter and pleasure. He delighted in dancing, found excitement in casinos, reveled in lively dominoes games, and cherished the peace of fishing trips. The sweet notes of blues music were the soundtrack to many happy hours, and being surrounded by family was his greatest joy. Those who knew him speak of his hospitality, his active and outgoing spirit, his remarkable storytelling, and a wisdom that shaped the lives of those around him.

His legacy is one of generosity, activity, and an outstretched hand. A great storyteller and a true pillar of his community, Henry  made sure everyone felt welcome, seen, and loved. He leaves behind a family bound together by his example and a community richer for his compassion.

Family and friends are invited to remember and honor HENRY LEE WASHINGTON at the viewing on August 20, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Golden Gate Funeral Home-Dallas, 4155 S R. L. Thornton Fwy, Dallas, TX 75224. A wake service will follow at the same venue at 7:15 PM. The funeral celebration will be held on August 21, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, 1660 West Camp Wisdom Road, Dallas, TX 75232, with burial to follow at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, 1311 Murdock Road, Dallas, TX 75217.

As we gather to say goodbye, we celebrate a life lived with open arms, a heart full of song, and a spirit too vibrant to ever be forgotten. Henry's laughter, kindness, and wisdom now echo in our memories, a reminder that love, when shared freely, can light the world for generations to come.
