Horace James Anthony Jr

September 20, 1950 — May 20, 2026

Horace James Anthony Jr., a pillar of strength, wisdom, and love, departed this life on May 20, 2026, in Duncanville, Texas. Born on September 20, 1950, in Kilgore, Texas, Horace’s journey was marked by pride in service, dedication to family, and a vibrant zest for life that touched all who knew him.

A proud graduate of L.G. Pinkston High School, class of 1972, Horace’s career was as diverse as it was impressive. For over 30 years, he served with distinction at the IRS, followed by a decade at Methodist Medical Center, contributing tirelessly behind the scenes to the fabric of his community. His commitment extended beyond civilian life, as he honored his country through his service in the U.S. Navy and the Army Reserve.

Horace was much more than his professional achievements. A man of enviable style and grace, known as a sharp dresser with a magnetic personality, he was a natural-born leader and protector. Those who had the privilege to be in his presence recall a man who was cool, witty, and funny—a father figure to many, a dancer, and singer who loved the soulful rhythms of Johnny Taylor. He relished music, chess, skating, and swimming, and delighted in his role as a YouTube chef, bringing creativity and joy to every interest he pursued.

His proudest accomplishments were not measured by accolades or titles but reflected in the lives of his children. Horace taught his sons to be men of integrity and his daughters to be strong, independent women. His children—Stephanie Anthony Jessie, Kendrick Anthony, India Bruce, Brandi Anthony, Horace Anthony III (Alecia), and Ashton Anthony (Ashley)—stand as living legacies to his teachings and love. This legacy continues to flourish through a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even a great-great-grandchild. He also cherished his sister, Sarah Anthony, his brother Orell Anthony, and an extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, and many devoted friends who shared his journey.

His memory is eternally intertwined with those who went before him: his beloved wife Donna Anthony, his parents Horace and Mary Anthony, and his brother R.L. Anthony, whose spirits join together in the timeless tapestry of family.

To say that “just being with him was the best” captures the essence of Horace’s profound impact. His wisdom, protectiveness, and family-centered spirit created a sanctuary for those he loved, and his presence will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
