Isaiah Turner Sr., affectionately known as Ike, was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on August 6, 1943, to L.S. and Ellen Turner. He embarked on a lifelong journey of faith, service, and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
From an early age, Isaiah embraced his faith, accepting the Lord Jesus Christ and dedicating several years to serve as a minister, guiding others through their spiritual journeys. His commitment to service extended beyond the church; he proudly served in the United States Army, bravely participating in the Vietnam War, where he exemplified courage and resilience.
Isaiah’s pursuit of knowledge led him to attend Mountain View College, where he furthered his education while balancing his roles as a minister and security agent. His professional life was characterized by integrity and dedication, culminating in a fulfilling retirement.
A devoted Pleasant Grove Church of Christ member, Isaiah attended services until his health was no longer permitted. He was a quiet yet vibrant soul who cherished the company of family and friends. In his leisure time, he enjoyed culinary delights as a true foodie and cultivated a remarkable collection of firearms. A self-proclaimed "Trekkie," he delighted in the tales of exploration in Star Trek, sharing his passion for the iconic series with those around him. His tastes in entertainment were varied, with favorite celebrities including the talented Janet Jackson and the charismatic Bruce Willis.
Isaiah was preceded in death by his beloved parents, L.S. Turner and Ellen (Martin) Turner, as well as siblings Ethel Castleberry, Ruth Ellen Johnson, Joseph Turner, and Sam Turner. He is lovingly survived by his eldest sister, Katie Wallace, and his cherished children: Isaiah Turner Jr., James Turner, Carla Turner, Jacqueline Baines, Theland Edwards (Brenda), Christopher Turner, and Sametria Wilson. Additionally, he leaves behind several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends whose lives he touched.
In celebrating Isaiah's life, we remember a man of quiet strength, deep faith, and boundless love—a legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of those he held dear.
