JACQUELINE MAXWELL

April 2, 1962 — May 12, 2021

Jacqueline Ann Maxwell was born on April 2, 1962 at Brackenridge Hospital, in Austin Texas, to Freddie and Earlene Maxwell.  Jacqueline, who is lovingly called “Jackie” was the oldest of the three siblings, all girls born to this couple. She seemed to be extremely proud of her status as the oldest child and would readily remind or inform every one of her status.

At the age of two, Jackie suffered a serious illness which rendered her both physically and mentally handicapped.  On numerous occasions Jackie’s parents were advised by medical professionals and others to consider placing her in a state facility, to avoid personal hardship for them as they grew older. Both parents were steadfast in their decision to trust the Lord to enable them to keep Jackie at home with the family she knew and loved.  By the loving grace, mercy and the strength from the Lord, Jackie remained at home with her parents, all of her days.  A period that lasted fifty-nine years, one month and ten days.

Jackie was enrolled in several special state programs designed to help her develop various self- help skills. She also competed in sports activities.  Her favorites were track and kick ball.  Over the years, she participated annually in the special Olympics and won many medals until asthma forced her to retire.  At an early age she accepted Christ and was baptized as a member of the David Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Austin Texas, under the Pastoral leadership of Reverend James Obey.

Now anyone who knew Jackie, knew she was an avid Texas Longhorn fan and loved to proudly wave the Hook ’em Horns sign. She always looked forward to the annual football game between the Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners.  As much as she loved the Longhorns; Jackie truly loved the Lord, and thoroughly enjoyed listening to sermons and Spiritual hymns. She is currently a member of Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church under the Pastoral leadership of Dr. Terry M. Turner.

Jackie was kind, courageous, and a fighter. She believed in the power of prayer and she had a strong will to live. She left her medical team lost for words many times. The last few years Jackie endured much, yet she never complained.  In the recent days leading to her passing, Jackie would say to her mama, “I want to go home”.  On the day of May 12, 2021, Jackie told her mama, “I want to go home tonight”.  On Wednesday night, May 12, 2021, God Almighty, in His infinite love and mercy, called Jackie home. Rest on Sweet Girl. We take joy and peace in knowing she was ready, and we celebrate her resting peacefully in the presence of Jesus.

Jackie loved her family dearly and if she had not seen or talk to you in a while, trust me she asked about you. She leaves to mourn her passing: her parents, Freddie and Earlene Maxwell; sisters, Roslyn Broach (Roosevelt) and Aretha Maxwell; nieces, Michelle Broach and Demeatria Drummond; nephews, Joshua, David, and Caleb Broach; great nieces, Zion Haggerty and Arianna Broach; and a host of other relatives, church members, and friends.
