JADEN MCCRAE WOOD

Jaden McCrae Wood took his first breath August 15th, 2003. He is the youngest son to Todd and Melanie Wood and youngest sibling of Blake and Kaitlyn Wood. Jaden was born in Dallas and raised in Grand Prairie, Texas.On the day Jaden was born, his mother, Melanie, went to a birthing center that morning and was home by 5:30 pm with a newborn boy in hand. This was a testament to how Jaden did things his own way, as both his siblings took notably longer being born. Growing up, he was constantly curious and wanted to be a part of everything that was happening around him. His brother and sister were like objects of wonder and fun that he wanted to follow in the footsteps of.In Jaden's young childhood, lots of fun was had between him and his older siblings.Kaitlyn was 2 years older, and Blake was 4 years older. Many of Jaden's hobbies began here, like his love for gaming. Being a young boy, he enjoyed the action of shooting games like Halo and Call of Duty. With his new found interests, we began to see Jaden's personality and humor develop a bit more, and at moments it proved to be an interesting challenge to the person he was speaking with. Jaden's impact on those he interacted with was always felt, even from that young age. Whether at home with his family, while at his church, Radiant Life, or at school. He made himself known regardless of if he tried to or not.As Jaden grew and the beautiful opportunities of life began to present, he showed interest in attending the Grand Prairie Fine Arts Academy to pursue choir. This came as a surprise to the family, as he had never sung in front of people before. He was determined and was accepted into the program. This is where his second family begins.The staff and admin at the Fine Arts Academy really earned their wages leading and guiding Jaden to meet his goals. His character was developed as he discovered a world that was truly his own. The excitement for every performance, the challenges to study, practice and fine tune his voice was something he would carry throughout the rest of his public schooling.Jaden attended Grand Prairie Fine Arts Academy from 6-12th grade, where he grew into the talented man he was. While talented, his energetic and goofy personality would occasionally be a problem in the classroom. However, the calls about Jaden's behavior in the classroom lessened as he matured through the years.It was during this period of growth, he accomplished many impressive feats in school and competitions. Some of Jaden's accomplishments consist of: 2019-TMEATenor- Bass All-State Choir Member, 2017-2021-UIL Superior Ist Division Solo & Ensemble-Consecutively, 2021-UIL Solo & Ensemble-Outstanding Performer, 2017-2021-TMEA All-Region/District Member Consecutively and 2020- SouthwesternAmerican Choral Director Association Invitation Choir-Participant.Jaden had many personal accomplishments outside of his schooling. He was a member of cub scouts during his elementary years and eventually graduated to boy scouts as he attended middle and high school. His father, Todd, often attended and encouraged his activity in the club. Jaden gained many skills here, and spent a lot of time camping in nature with his friends. His most notable trip was attending the Philmont Scout Ranch in the summer of 2019. This backpacking trip was an intense 2 weeks during the heat of the summer, moving through the terrain of the Rocky Mountains in New Mexico. It was here that we saw more of Jaden's grit and strength that would carry him through some of his hardest moments.During Jaden's senior year of high school, he developed a desire for business. He then graduated in 2021 and, shortly after his 18th birthday, went to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech for a business degree. He continued his schooling and began taking psychology classes where he found a love for why people are wired to think and act how they do, leading him to pursue psychology as his minor.Having found his independence in Lubbock, Jaden focused on making a living primarily through his business, Woodys Curb Appeal, where he painted personalized curb designs. Knocking on strangers doors and working in the heat was difficult work, but it's what he wanted to do. Jaden also worked in roofing sales, which inspired him to pursue his real estate license. When he wasn't in school, hanging out with friends or resting at home, he was focused on his work and given high respect for his hustle. Jaden loved hearing about people's success stories, finding out how they grew their wealth, their mindsets, and their business accomplishments.The slower pace of Lubbock allowed Jaden the flexibility to do what worked best for him. He created a beautiful community here and grew so much as an adult. Here, he also met his girlfriend, Jenna Makowsky, who was in his life through much of his college experience, was his biggest support and help during the last months of his life.In January of 2026, Jaden was diagnosed with stage 4 Burkitt Lymphoma. There was never anything that could have prepared him, a 22 year old, or anyone else for this news. He fought valiantly for months, focusing on rest and recovery while receiving treatment. Although there was uncertainty at times, everyone held onto hope, even when everything had suddenly turned for the worst. On June 28th, 2026, surrounded by family, Jaden McCrae Wood peacefully released his final breath.Through those final moments, Jaden's personality and character had still shone brightly. Even if not everyone could understand the kind of man he had become, he knew who he was from the best to the worst. His love for others was always evident in his efforts to get to know them, to entertain them, his desire for their success, health and wellbeing. In all these things, there was no time to be wasted. The message that Jaden's life presents to us today is this: if you are ever going to be a better version of yourself, accomplish your goals and build lasting connections with those around you, then stop wasting time and start now because there will never be a better moment.
