James C. Houser (Jim)

James C. Houser, known to family and friends as Jim, passed away on July 9, 2026, at Presbyterian Hospital in Plano, Texas, at the age of 90. Born in Minneola, Kansas, to James and Lillie (Vink) Houser, Jim lived a life defined by hard work, service, dedication to family, and commitment to his community.
He married Barbara Joy Morain on April 27, 1954, in Dodge City, Kansas. Together they shared 69 years of marriage and raised four children: Rob, Mark, Janette Woods, and Shirley Stoner. His family grew to include numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom were an important part of his life.
Jim spent most of his life farming and ranching south of Minneola, Kansas. Known for his strong work ethic and sense of responsibility, he devoted himself to the land and rural way of life. He also served his country in the United States Army, spending two years stationed in Alaska and six additional years in the Army Reserve.
A lifelong supporter of the Minneola community, Jim treasured friendships, enjoyed visiting with others, and was known for his honesty, reliability, and steadfast character.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his parents; his sisters, Katherine Johnson and Ina Krob; and his grandson, Nick Houser. He leaves behind a lasting legacy through his family, friends, and the many lives he touched.
Inurnment will take place at on Saturday August 15, 2026 in Appleton Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Minneola Civic Connection, Minneola Hometown Market, or the Minneola Fire Department.
