Emblem

Colonel. James W. Wallace, Ret., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, career Army officer, veteran, businessman, deacon and Bible teacher, and community leader, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2026, at the age of 94.

James was blessed with a long and remarkable life—one grounded in his faith in God, his love for his family, and his commitment to serving others. Throughout his 94 years, he touched the lives of many through his leadership, friendship, generosity, and example.

Born in rural east Texas, James grew up in the farm communities of Texas during the 1930s and 1940s. The values he learned during those early years—faith, perseverance, hard work, education, and service—became guiding principles throughout his life.

James proudly served his country as a career officer in the United States Army for 30 years, ultimately attaining the rank of colonel. His military career reflected his dedication to duty, leadership, and service to his country. His experiences in the Army became an important part of his life story and helped shape the leader, husband, father, and mentor he became.

Following his military career, he became a successful businessman and remained active in his community. James continued to pursue opportunities to serve and leadin Texas. First as a Real Estate Broker and Bible teacherin Austin, later for 30 years in Centerville, as a business leader, deacon, and church administrator, and in his final years he lived in Fort Worth, Texas to be near his daughter and served as a deacon and caring neighbor.

He was a man of deep Christian faith who shared his faith through both his words and the way he lived.

Family was at the center of James’s life. He was a devoted husband and father who took great pride in his family and the generations that followed him. He believed that the opportunities and blessings he received were not his alone; they were opportunities to strengthen his family, serve others, and honor God.

Later in life, James preserved the story of his journey in his two autobiographies, Walking Through Open Doorsand Walk On!. In sharing his experiences, he reflected on the many doors that opened throughout his life and the faith and courage required to walk through them. His story serves as a testament to perseverance, service, family, and his enduring belief in God’s guidance.

James leaves behind a legacy far greater than his professional accomplishments or military rank. His legacy lives in the family he loved, the people he mentored and encouraged, the friendships he maintained, the country he served, and the faith that sustained him throughout his life.

He is survived by his daughter, son and his wife, his granddaughter and other dear relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Mary.

As his family mourns his passing, we also celebrate a life well lived and give thanks to God for the 94 years we were blessed to share with him. Col. James W. Wallace, Ret., lived a life of faith, family, leadership, and service. His influence will continue through the lives of those who knew and loved him.
