JENNIFER HUNTER

December 4, 1964 — December 25, 2025

Jennifer Hunter, a cherished educator and passionate advocate, peacefully left this world on December 25, 2025, a day that will forever be marked by her absence but enriched by her vibrant legacy. Born on December 4, 1964, in Chicago, IL, Jennifer was the beloved daughter of James Hunter and Ethel Mae McGee. She spent her formative years on the south side of Chicago, where her faith was nurtured as a member of Trinity United Church of Christ. Her educational journey began at St. Margaret of Scotland Elementary School, culminating in her graduation from Saint Elizabeth Seton High School in 1983, where she became known as a “Seton Sister.”

In 1987, Jennifer embarked on a missionary trip to Sudan with the United Church of Christ, an experience that not only deepened her faith but also forged lifelong friendships with her fellow travelers. She continued her pursuit of knowledge, earning her B.A. in Liberal Arts/Psychology from St. Xavier University and completing the Healthcare Leadership Program at Loyola University. Fueled by her passion for service, Jennifer dedicated over seven years to improving lives as the Director of Guest Relations at Renaissance at South Shore Skilled Nursing Facility.

Her commitment to leadership blossomed further when she joined the New Ventures in Leadership program with the American Society on Aging, where she honed her skills during an immersive eighteen-month fellowship. Jennifer’s journey led her to administrative roles at Heartland Home Healthcare + Hospice and Halsted Terrace Skilled Nursing Facility before she found her true calling as an educator at the Young Women’s Leadership Charter School and Evergreen Park Elementary School District 124.

In 2009, seeking new horizons, Jennifer relocated to Dallas, where she continued her impactful journey in education by becoming a teacher and tutor at Sunnyvale ISD and Garland ISD. In an inspiring twist of fate, she accepted a teaching position at the Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Center in Dallas in August 2012, where she shared her knowledge and compassion with students alongside a dedicated team that became like family.

In 2019, Jennifer bravely transformed her own health struggles into a beacon of hope for others. As a Patient Ambassador for Dialysis Patient Citizens (DPC), she traveled to Washington, D.C., passionately advocating for improved care and funding for the kidney community. On August 26, 2020, Jennifer received the life-changing news that she was matched with a kidney donor—a moment filled with hope and gratitude that embodied her steadfast belief in second chances.

Jennifer lived a life characterized by generosity and kindness. Her radiant smile, positive outlook, and wise perspectives brought warmth to those around her. A lover of the arts, she introduced many friends and family members to the beauty of musicals, plays, museums, and galleries, igniting a passion for the arts that would endure for years to come. She was a master connector, always ready to lend support, share a kind word, or offer just the right resource when needed. Even in the face of her own challenges, Jennifer consistently prioritized the well-being of her friends and family, enveloping them with her love and prayers.

Jennifer is preceded in death by her beloved parents, James and Ethel Hunter, as well as her siblings: Dorothy Ann Stinnette, Rev. Sammy K. Smith, Sarah “Gaye” Smith, and Rev. James L. Smith. She leaves behind a treasured network of nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will carry her memory forward. Her unwavering belief in second chances—whether in education, life, or her own health journey—exemplified her courage and compassion. Jennifer will forever be remembered for her generous heart, her infectious smile, and the countless lives she touched through her service and love. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
