JOHN MURRY

November 9, 1943 — January 24, 2021

On January 24, 2021, a Sunday evening John Wesley Murry heard the call of our Heavenly Father and he answered, HERE AM I LORD. Not only did he hear our Lord and Savior, he also was greeted by his lovely wife of 56 years.

JOHN WESLEY was the youngest child of Johnny Murry & Margaret George Murry Whitfield. John was born November 9, 1943 in Taylor, AR. John was affectionately also known as Dudden.

JOHN WESLEY attended school in Taylor, AR and was a 1962 graduate of Walker High School, Magnolia, AR.

JOHN WESLEY professed his faith in Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. Paul Baptist Church in Taylor, AR. He was a member of the choir. After moving to Dallas, TX he attended Avenue Baptist Church and later united with Southern Crest Missionary Baptist Church where he was an active usher until his health began to fail.

JOHN WESLEY was a man that loves the outdoors. Doesn’t matter how cold or hot it was he enjoyed sitting on the front porch. He also enjoyed playing dominos under the tree in the neighborhood. After moving to Dallas, TX he attended trade school to become a skilled Brick Mason. John has work across the DFW region. John was definitely a people person so helping others with home improvements was his true gift. He also loved helping to build the booths for the infamous St. Anthony Carnivals. In 1962, John met the love of his life, Betty Louise Nelms. They married December 17, 1963 in Dallas. To this union 3 daughters were born, Sharron Yvonne, Monica Cheree and Shanikwa Shanta Murry. Imagine him being the only man of a house full of girls. They all were daddy girls. In the Murry household John was Betty’s and their daughter’s provider, protector, devoted husband & father and leader. Just a true example of what a God-fearing man looked like. John was also known to his girls as a professional eves dropper. He heard everything by pretending to be sleep and later asked about your conversation. He didn’t miss anything. He was a practical joker and aggravator.

JOHN WESLEY, to know him was to love him. He enjoyed watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks and the Texas Rangers. While watching the Cowboy’s his famous line that you could hear all over the house was “LET’S GO COWBOYS!!!”. If you saw John, he always wore one of his favorite teams hat.
