John William Johnson passed away on August 27, 2026, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 78. He was born on July 23, 1948, in Mineola, Texas, and lived a life remembered for warmth, strength, and devotion to those he loved.
John was educated at Franklin D. Roosevelt High School. He worked as a truck driver, a path that reflected his steady nature and hardworking spirit. Beyond his work, he enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought people together. He loved watching baseball and basketball, had a fondness for classic cars, and enjoyed a good game of dominoes. Those who knew John will remember him as outgoing and charismatic, with a sense of humor that could brighten a room. He was friendly, generous, caring, and very outspoken, qualities that made his presence unforgettable.
Among the things John held most dear was being a family man. That love for family stood as one of his proudest accomplishments and remains a lasting part of his legacy.
He is survived by his sister, Ruth Larry, and his brother, Jerry Johnson. He also leaves behind his stepdaughters, Phyllis Peteet and Beverly Peteet, Cherishing his memory as well are his nieces Kimberly Larry, Gwendolyn Larry, Princess Diggins, Tonya Johnson, Shearrell McKenzie, Carol Martinez, and Ingrid Russell along with his great-nephew, Kendall Andrews. John is also survived by his grandchildren, Lamont Potts, Brooke Potts, Cierra Potts, Disaih Potts, and Jurnee Hebrard. Their lives carry forward the love and connection he valued so deeply, and his memory will remain close to each of them.
He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Johnson, Sr.; his mother, Mealie Ann Sears; his wife, Blanch Marie Johnson; his brothers, Willie Lee Henry, Charles King, Glenn Johnson, Jr and Loyd Johnson; and his sister, Harriet Johnson.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of John at a viewing on September 4, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Golden Gate Funeral Home-Dallas, 4155 S. R. L. Thornton Fwy, Dallas, Texas 75224. Funeral services will be held on September 5, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., also at Golden Gate Funeral Home-Dallas.
John William Johnson will be remembered for his lively spirit, his generous heart, and the love he gave so freely to family and friends. His life leaves behind treasured memories, shared laughter, and an enduring example of care and devotion.
