JOHNNIE COLLINS

September 3, 1930 — April 17, 2020

Johnnie M Stanfield Collins was born on September 3, 1930 to John Henry and Emma (Minor) Stanfield in Brady, TX.

Her growing up years were quite interesting to say the least. Her father was a butler to one of the richest families in the community for over 43 years. She was always a playmate or a companion to the children of this family until the age of 16 years as she worked with her father. She attended school in Brady and dropped out to work in order to save to put herself through the school of cosmetology. When she finished school her father built her a beauty shop. After many years later she married and moved to Odessa, TX in 1954. After her son finished school she remarried and adopted her daughter. She went back to school to get her GED and attended Amarillo College where she received her certification in child development. She always had a concern for the well being of others.

When her husband’s health worsened they moved back to Odessa where her husband Chester Collins later died. She had a busy life with her daughter Charlotte and later with granddaughter Daeyeasha. She enjoyed her work in the church where she’d been a member for many years. She served as choir president, church clerk, Sunday school teacher and on about all committees at Greater St. John Baptist Church.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, all siblings, and a grandson.

She is survived by her son Johnny (Russell) Stanfield (Frances), daughter Charlotte Collins-Zernicke (Shawn), special granddaughter Daeyeasha Cornish (Tyler), granddaughter Jahnea, grandsons Michael Stanfield and Anthony Dickens Jr. Adopted daughters Estella Willard, Nancy Jones, and Connie L. Randle. Bonus grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews
