Jonathan Kourtney Thomas, born on February 21, 1990, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Joyce M. Hills Engham and Roosevelt Thomas, was a cherished son, brother, father, and friend whose life profoundly impacted many.
Jonathan earned his GED through the State of TDCJ and furthered his education by studying business management at Eastfield College. Demonstrating remarkable drive and determination, he became an entrepreneur in 2022, establishing a venture selling apparel that included jumpsuits and popular brands such as Nike, Polo, and True Religion. His work ethic was admirable, as he was always ready for the next opportunity, demonstrating a unique commitment to his entrepreneurial pursuits.
Fondly referred to as Johnny Boy, Jay, or JT, Jonathan was known for his immense love for his family and friends. He embodied a spirit of generosity, always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. With a heart filled with kindness and compassion, Jonathan exemplified the directive of unconditional love as expressed in John 13:34: “That ye love one another: as I have loved you…”
Jonathan's most significant pride came from his relationship with his son, Elijah Kourtney Thomas, a bond that was further enriched by the presence of his beloved twin, who mirrored him in many ways. He also shared a meaningful relationship with Arrie Fraierson, who provided him with a profound understanding of love.
Music played an essential role in Jonathan's life, with his favorite songs including "Dear Mama" by Tupac Shakur and "Stand" by Donnie McClurkin, reflecting both his deep appreciation for his mother and his unwavering faith in God.
In addition to his parents, Joyce Engham and Roosevelt Thomas, Jonathan leaves behind his grandparents, Irma Thomas and Roosevelt Warren, as well as Lou Miller Battet, affectionately known as “Granny Lou.” His legacy continues through his son Elijah, his brothers Jeffrey Hills and Jamall Welch (Brooke), his sister Jessica Hills, and his adoptive siblings Josiah Engham, Johanna Engham, and Jeremiah Engham. Jonathan took great joy in being an uncle to several nieces and three nephews, along with being surrounded by a loving extended family that includes nine aunts and a multitude of great uncles, great aunts, cousins, and friends.
Jonathan Kourtney Thomas will be remembered for his vibrant spirit, unwavering dedication to his loved ones, and the joy he brought to all who knew him.
