With heavy hearts and profound reverence, we remember Larry Dewayne Wheeler, a soul whose vibrant presence illuminated every room he entered. Born on January 26, 1998, in Dallas, Texas, Larry's journey through life was as dynamic and impassioned as the city that cradled his beginnings and ultimately marked his final moments on May 14, 2026.
Larry was a man of many facets—boldly outspoken, yet tenderly loving; fiercely strong-willed and resilient, yet possessing a heart open to compassion and care. His laughter was infectious, his humor a balm for weary spirits, and his sociability a bridge that connected lives in celebration and camaraderie. Those who knew him remember Larry not only for his sharp wit but also for his unwavering loyalty and the deep love he held for the people around him.
From his formative years in the Lake Highland School District, Larry exhibited a relentless drive and passion, especially evident in his athletic pursuits. His proudest accomplishments were etched in the exhilarating moments of competition—making it to state competitions in sports like football and track, arenas where his steadfast spirit and dedication shone unequivocally. Beyond the fields and tracks, Larry’s interests painted a picture of a well-rounded individual—an avid reader, a lover of movies, and a cherished companion to dogs, each hobby reflecting his inquisitive mind and gentle heart.
Larry's profound commitment to life was complemented by his enduring connection to faith; he found solace and strength in making peace with God, a beacon guiding him through trials and triumphs alike. His love for the Oklahoma Sooners spoke to a lifelong passion for spirited competition and community pride.
He leaves behind a lineage rich with love and memories, including his devoted son, Juju, and daughter, Nevaeh. His mother, L. Johnson, and father, C. Cassel, alongside his brothers Jeremiah and Josiah Johnson, and sisters Jeriah, Journee, and Maylani Johnson, continue to carry his legacy forward. Larry’s grandmother, Carolyn Johnson, and an extended family of aunts Jasmine, Torick, and Ashley Johnson, as well as his uncle Chris Howell (Dominque), stand united in their remembrance. Though his grandmother Annie Howell and uncle Cedric Howell have passed before him, their spirits live on woven into the fabric of his story.
The viewing from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM and a wake honoring Larry’s life will be held on May 27, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Golden Gate Funeral Home-Dallas, located at 4155 S R. L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, TX 75224. Following this, a prayer service will commence at 6:00 PM at the same location, providing an intimate moment for reflection and communal solace. Larry’s funeral service is scheduled for May 28, 2026, at 6:00 PM, where friends and family will gather once more to celebrate a life vividly lived.
Larry Dewayne Wheeler was more than his words or deeds; he was a beacon of resilience, humor, and love—a man whose story will echo in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him. His trailblazing spirit continues beyond the earthly realm, inspiring all who cherish his memory to live fully, love deeply, and speak their truth as fiercely as he did. In remembering Larry, we embrace not just an end, but the enduring essence of a remarkable life well lived.
