Words are inadequate to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude for your prayers, cards, condolences, and many acts of kindness shown to us during our time of bereavement. Although flowers and plants would be appreciated, we believe the best way to honor Laval's (husband, father (Da), grandfather (Papa), uncle, and friend) legacy would be through a contribution to the causes that were personal to him.
We have selected two options for contribution.
First Tee - Greater Dallas and American Lung Association Memorial Fund
First Tee - Greater Dallas
All that know, Laval, aka (Jack), know that golfing was his passion. From a very young age as a caddie in Mobile, Alabama, he loved the game, the art, and golfing's comradery. Wanting all to enjoy the game, his greatest delight was sharing his passion and his gift of golf with the next generation of golfers. First Tee - Greater Dallas; not only allowed Laval the opportunity to teach golf to youths, but it allowed him the opportunity to introduce those that may have never had the opportunity to experience the love of the game. Through First Tee - Greater Dallas, Laval has taught many young future golfers, including two of his grandsons.

American Lung Association Memorial Fund
The American Lung Association was chosen due to Laval's and his sister (Barbara) bout with lung cancer. While Laval completed both radiation and chemotherapy, the lung cancer did significantly have an overall impact on his body. Our desire with the American Lung Association's contribution is to provide an awareness and to educate as many African American families of the risks of lung disease within the African American community. Collectively, African Americans have the highest death rate and shortest survival of any racial/ethnic group in the US for most cancers. Black men also have the highest cancer incidence rate. The causes of these inequalities are complex and reflect social and economic disparities and cultural differences that affect cancer risk, as well as differences in access to high-quality health care.
