Laverne Downs, a beloved individual who touched the lives of many, bid farewell to this world on April 12, 2024, in Dallas, TX. Born to Lillie Mae Downs and Thomas Williams on April 2, 1943, in the vibrant city of Louisville, KY, Laverne's journey was one filled with passion, zest for life, and a deep love for exploration. She lived her life as a servant of God. In her early life, she was a faithful member of First Church of Deliverance in Chicago, IL. After moving to Dallas, she found her church home at Cathedral of Hope where she was loved by her members.

With a career as a contract driver and chef, Laverne's skills in the culinary arts were matched only by her love for the open road. Her dual passions allowed her to not only savor the flavors of different cuisines but also to travel far and wide, embracing the beauty of diverse landscapes.

Described as outgoing and outspoken, Laverne had a magnetic personality that drew others to her. She exuded warmth and sincerity in all her interactions and had a knack for making everyone feel welcome in her presence. Her spirit was infectious, spreading joy wherever she went.

In her leisure time, Laverne found solace and joy in traveling to new destinations, helping those less fortunate, showcasing her culinary talents through cooking for others, and reveling in the art of entertaining guests while also cherishing being entertained herself. Her wide array of interests reflected her vibrant spirit and insatiable curiosity about the world around her.

As we mourn Laverne's passing, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life fueled by laughter, good food, and enriching experiences. While she may no longer be physically present with us, her memory will forever endure in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

She is preceded in death by her daughter Tammie Downs. She also leaves behind a grandson Cortland Downs and a host of friends, family and extended family who will miss her dearly.
