Leland A. Wilburn lived a remarkable life full of love, service, and joy before passing away at age 63 in his childhood home on April 19, 2024. After graduating high school from Dunbar High in 1979, Leland honorably served his country in the Army. Throughout his life, Leland worked hard to creatively provide for himself and his beloved daughter Leah, whom he adored.
Known for his generous heart, Leland lived life to the fullest, forming special bonds with friends and family while constantly opening his home to help others in need. He cherished time spent with family and friends, whether hanging out or at a family function, while looking for something sweet to eat. He was an avid sports fan. Leland never missed a 49ers football game or a Lakers basketball game. He loved sharing moments with his brother Eric while watching NASCAR racing.
Above all, Leland found joy in his role as a devoted father to his only daughter Leah and later as a doting grandfather to his precious granddaughters Alaiyah and Mia. During trying times, the love of those babies gave Leland strength and purpose to fight. The legacy Leland leaves behind is one of service, resilience, humor, and unconditional love. Though deeply missed, his loved ones find solace in memories of his infectious smile and knowing that Leland truly lived life to the fullest.
Leland leaves behind a daughter, Leah Wilburn; granddaughters Alaiyah and Mia; mother, Ella Whetstone (John); brothers, Eric Wilburn (Vicki) and Kevin (Rosland); sister, Sonya (Michael); and a host of nieces, nephew, aunts, uncles and cousins.
