LESTER GENE SHELTON, a beloved figure known for his warmth, humor, and unyielding spirit, passed away on January 8, 2026, in Richardson, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and the kind of generosity that touched all who knew him. Born on June 1, 1943, in Haynesville, Louisiana, Lester’s journey through life was marked by both hard work and a profound connection to family and community.
A devoted construction worker by trade, Lester poured not only his expertise into every project but also his heart, building not just structures, but the foundations for lasting relationships. His straightforward nature and witty banter made him a cherished friend and confidant to many. Lester possessed a likable demeanor, and his presence was both grounding and uplifting—qualities that drew people to him effortlessly.
He attended Woodson Elementary School in Haynesville, as well as at NW Harlee Elementary and James Madison High School in Dallas, TX. These early experiences shaped him into the man he was, imparting a sense of community and resilience.
Among his myriad passions, singing gospel songs brought him immense joy, allowing him to express his deep faith and love for music. He also found pleasure in watching TV westerns and cheering for his favorite football teams—a true testament to his vibrant personality and zest for life.
Lester leaves behind his beloved wife, Georgia Shelton, who stood beside him through thick and thin, three children, Keith Shelton and Vicki Brice (Wayne) and Christie Shelton who preceded him in death . The family circle widened with the joy brought by three grandchildren one of which preceded him in death and nine great-grandchildren, each of whom holds a piece of his enduring spirit. Lester is also survived by his sister, Ester Shelton, and brother, Terry Shelton, both of whom shared his life’s journey. A host of relatives and friends are left to carry forward his legacy of kindness and humor.
The remembrance of Lester’s life will be honored through a series of services at the Golden Gate Funeral Home-Dallas, where friends and family can gather to share stories and celebrate the joy he brought into their lives. A viewing will take place on January 15, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a wake service at 6:00 -7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held the following day, January 16, 2026, at Garza Avenue Church of Christ, starting at 1:00 PM.
