Merlene Cobb Jones, affectionately known as "Tutie," gracefully departed this world on June 16, 2025.She passed away just one day shy of her 80th birthday. "Tutie" was born on June 17, 1945, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. she was a beacon of strength and loved throughout her life. Merlene's journey left an indelible mark on the lives of her family and community.
Merlene was a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington in Tulsa, a foundation that propelled her into a fruitful and devoted career. She wore many hats, most notably as the owner of Tutie's Tots Child Care and Learning Center. Through her nurturing spirit, she created a thriving environment where countless children blossomed under her care. Her nursing background further exemplified her profound compassion, enabling her to provide care not only to her mother but also to many family members, ensuring their well-being during challenging times.
Her personality was a beautiful contradiction, often described as a “sour patch kid” – a delightful blend of feisty spirit and warm-hearted affection. Merlene's love and loyalty knew no bounds; she was dependable and giving to a fault, creating lasting memories with those who knew and cherished her.
Merlene was a vibrant soul with interests that brought her joy. She often found excitement at the casino and relished the thrill of a good party. Her love for music, particularly for her favorite artist, Joe, resonated deeply within her; the melodies were a soundtrack to the laughter and love she shared with family and friends.
She leaves behind a cherished legacy through her loving children: Muriel Burch, John Jones, Vanessa Jones, Malcolm Jones, LaGrant Sibley, and Elizabeth Polk. Each of them carries memories of Merlene’s unwavering support and joyful spirit, traits that will undoubtedly shape the next generations.
In honoring her memory, we also reflect on the loss of her beloved daughter, Angela Jones, whose spirit will forever be intertwined with that of Merlene's. Together, they will be remembered for their shared love and the lives they touched.
As family, friends, and loved ones gather to celebrate her remarkable life, Merlene will be remembered not only as a business owner and a devoted nurse but also as a woman who embraced life with zest, warmth, and a unique flair. Viewing services will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, from 2 PM - 7 PM followed by a funeral service on June 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM; both at Golden Gate Funeral Home-Dallas.
Merlene Jones’ legacy of love and dedication will continue to illuminate the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit is a reminder that life's true wealth lies in the bonds we create and the love we give.
