Michael Hatcher was born Wednesday, January 14, 1953 to Billy C. and Mary Matthews Hatcher. He was the second of four children, the second of three sons, a lifelong resident of Fort Worth, Texas, and a 1971 graduate of I. M. Terrell High School.
In May of 1980, Michael enlisted in the Army branch of the United States Armed Forces, where he served as an infantryman for two years and five months. His commendations included the Army Service Ribbon, as well as awards for Rifle M16 Marksman and Hand Grenade Expert. Michael was very smart, evidenced by his superiors’ recommendation that he pursue higher levels of service, specifically to become a candidate for the paratrooper program.
In addition to his intellect, with no formal training, Michael was gifted by God to sketch and draw, which were enhanced by his ambidexterity.
He had a great sense of humor, and he was an “old soul”. Once while visiting his great-grandmother, when she asked him how he was, four-year-old Michael replied, “Oh… pretty good.”
He was the proud father of one, a son. He was preceded in death by both his parents, and by his older brother, Benton.
Left to remember him are his son, Lenny White and his wife Tamika; his brother, Alan Hatcher and his wife Deborah; his sister, Robin R. Smith and her husband David; his grandson, Xavier White and his wife Jonnae; his granddaughters, Alana White and Alexis White; his great-grandson, Jace; six nieces and nephews, 16 great-nieces and great-nephews, and two great-great nephews.
