It is with deep respect and heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Monica Michelle Lewis, a remarkable woman whose vibrant spirit and thoughtful presence touched the lives of many. Monica departed this world on May 22, 2026, just days shy of her 39th birthday, leaving behind a legacy marked by intelligence, cultural pride, and unwavering dedication to family and community.

Monica was a true conversationalist, known for her brutal honesty and sharp intellect. She was a guardian and gatekeeper of culture and arts, fiercely proud of her Black heritage, and she navigated life with a fearless love for truth and authenticity. Her passion extended to the sports she loved most—football and soccer—where she found joy and connection. At her core, Monica was deeply family-oriented, cherishing her roles as wife, daughter, sister, auntie, niece, cousin, and friend with great pride and devotion.

An accomplished scholar and dedicated professional, Monica was a proud graduate of Texas Tech and East Texas A&M University. Her academic journey and professional career reflect her commitment to excellence and the pursuit of knowledge. As a Data Arts Researcher at Southern Methodist University, she contributed her considerable expertise and passion to the advancement of scholarly work, making a lasting impact in her field.

Monica was also a distinguished member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, where she found sisterhood and solidarity, enriching her life and those around her with the values of service, leadership, and fellowship.

The community will come together to honor Monica’s memory at a Memorial Service on May 30, 2026, at 3:00 PM held at Golden Gate Funeral Home-Dallas, located at 4155 S R. L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, TX 75224.

As we remember Monica Michelle Lewis, we hold close the essence of her courageous spirit, sharp mind, and boundless love for family and culture. She leaves behind a profound imprint of integrity and pride. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
