Celebrating the Life of

Naomi Marie Kennard Sweeney

July 11, 1954 – August 1, 2026

Naomi Marie Kennard Sweeney peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at her home in Hurst, Texas. Her life was one marked by faith, determination, service, and a love for family that will continue to live on through those who knew and loved her.

Naomi was born on July 11, 1954, at home in Lenepah, Oklahoma, to the late Georgia Mae (Moore) Kennard and James Nathaniel “Bill” Kennard.

She graduated from Lenepah High School in 1972, where she especially enjoyed playing basketball. Naomi had a heart for caring for others, which led her to pursue a career in nursing. In 1979, Naomi graduated from nursing school in Miami, Oklahoma, and later furthered her nursing education in Pittsburg, Kansas, before earning her doctorate degree in Texas.

Throughout the years, Naomi worked at various hospitals and healthcare facilities, dedicating herself to helping others. Yet she carried another dream in her heart. With determination and perseverance, Naomi eventually fulfilled her lifelong goal of completing mortuary school.

During her life, Naomi was married to Darrell Ingram; the two later divorced. Naomi later married Brian Sweeney, and they later divorced in 2006. Through marriage, Naomi was blessed with a stepdaughter, Denver, who remained a part of her extended family.

Away from work, Naomi enjoyed the simple things that brought her peace and happiness. She loved watching faith-based movies and spending time in the kitchen cooking. Her faith remained an important part of her life, and we find comfort in knowing that her earthly journey has ended, but her eternal life with the Lord has begun.

Naomi was preceded in death by her loving parents, Georgia Mae (Moore) Kennard and James Nathaniel “Bill” Kennard; her siblings, JamesAnna Thomas, Rosie Ledman, Prentice “Pete” Johnson, Nathaniel Kennard, Jerry “Hank” Kennard, Robert “Big Time” Kennard, and Raymond Kennard; her nephews, Wendell Kennard and Jared Thomas; and her nieces, Tia Thomas and Marissa Brown.

Naomi leaves behind her stepdaughter, Denver, along with a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, cousins, special friends, and loved ones who will cherish her memory and carry forward the Kennard family legacy, including Marcia Kennard (Coffeyville, KS), Courtney Kennard (Houston, TX), Tegrin Kennard (Coffeyville, KS), Chris Kennard (Lenepah, OK), Kisha Johnson (Coffeyville, KS), Robert Kennard II (Minot, ND), Prentice “David” Norwood (Topeka, KS), Tiana Kennard (Wichita, KS), and Derek Bohlar (Fayetteville, NC).

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” Matthew 25:23 (KJV)
