OSCAR COUNTS

September 14, 1939 — July 21, 2020

The Life Reflections of Oscar B. Counts Sr. Oscar B. Counts, Sr. was born on September 14, 1939 to the parents of James and Amanda Counts in Nashville Tennessee. He confessed faith in Jesus Christ at an early age and attended Forrest Chapter Baptist Church. He graduated from Cameron High School in 1958. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force. In 1959, he came home on leave and married his high school sweetheart, Sadie Horton.

Oscar and Sadie would later be stationed at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth Texas where they settled and eventually started a family after 15 years of marriage. To their union was born two children, Vicki and Oscar Jr. In 1978, after a distinguished 21-year career he retired from the Air Force. After retiring, he went on to obtain an Associate’s Degree in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration from Tarrant County College. This allowed him to begin a second career, which he continued with dedication into his early 70’s.

Oscar was a dedicated member of Sunshine Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America for many years. As a member of Sunshine, he served for over 20 years in the Brazos River Presbytery and as an Elder and Church Clerk. He and Sadie later united with St. Mark Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and Usher. He loved serving and working in the church and was a faithful member until his health declined.

Oscar was well known for his baking skills. Pound cakes and tea cakes were his specialty. In fact, he generously provided them for birthdays of loved ones and at many church events, where members would rush to make sure they got their share.

He was best known for being kind-hearted and fun loving. He truly had a servant’s heart and loved to share with those he loved.

He was preceded in death by both parents and all his siblings, four brothers and one sister. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 61 years, Sadie and his two beautiful children, who made him quite proud, Vicki and Oscar Jr. He also leaves, his doting granddaughter, Madison. Also left to mourn are two sisters-in-law, Dovetta Davis and Alice Counts, as well as over 100 nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. His memory will be forever treasured in each of their hearts.
