With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived, the family of OSCAR JONES JR, affectionately known as “Dick” and “Pete,” announces his peaceful passing on August 21, 2026, in Dallas, Texas. Born October 2, 1936, in Brenham, Texas, Oscar’s journey through life reflected the very best of humble beginnings, unwavering faith, and enduring devotion to family.
Oscar’s story is one of steadfast character and boundless love. To all who knew him, he was a man who cherished the simple joys — straightforward and easygoing, yet always clear with his words and intentions. His deep appreciation for the country life shaped his soul; he found fulfillment in nature’s rhythms, the comfort of home, and the presence of the Lord, whom he served as a proud and faithful member of the Church of Christ.
Oscar’s hands built and led — qualities he brought to his valued work as a foreman at the J.C. Boney Construction Company. His peers and colleagues saw in him both leadership and humility, a steady force who believed in doing things the right way, always for the good of those he loved.
In moments of leisure, Oscar radiated warmth and joy. He loved watching sports, immersed in the excitement of every game. Time spent scraping, fishing, cooking, grilling, and barbecuing—especially in the company of loved ones—filled him with delight. The Jones family’s Fourth of July celebrations and reunions were legendary: gathering together, sharing laughter, and slicing memories as generously as he would a home-cooked pie. Music always lived in his heart, with “Give Me My Flowers While I Yet Live” holding a special place in his memory, often heard as he drove his beloved Ford pickup.
A source of deep pride for Oscar was purchasing his own home and a new truck—milestones that symbolized his dedication, hard work, and determination to provide for those he cherished. These accomplishments weren’t just material; they spoke to dreams fulfilled and promises kept. Above all, however, it was his devotion to family that truly defined Oscar—whether at reunions piled high with good food and good humor or during quiet, everyday moments.
Oscar’s legacy comprises a sprawling, loving family who will carry his stories and lessons forward. He is survived by his daughters, Kathy Horton and Barbara Saran Randle, and his son-in-law Garland Horton. His grandchildren, Victoria Bennett, James Horton, Andrew Horton, Troy Randle, Thomas Horton, Anetria Howard, and Tiffany Howard, will remember him as a guiding presence, and a warm light at every family gathering. His siblings—brother Rufus Jones, and sisters Cleo Daniels, Betty McNeal, Catherine Jones, and Ethel Jones Campbell—mourn his loss while cherishing a lifetime of shared memories and kinship.
He joins in eternal rest his beloved wife Rosie Mae Jones, devoted parents Oscar and Josephine Jones, sons Ron Randle and Corithian Jones, and brother Delma Jones.
Friends and family are invited to honor Oscar’s memory and celebrate his enduring legacy at the viewing on August 28, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas. A funeral service will take place the following day, August 29, at 11:00 a.m. at Woodin Blvd Church of Christ, Dallas, followed by burial at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
Oscar Jones Jr.’s life was a testament to honesty, humility, faith, and love — the kind of love that asks for nothing in return but gives everything without hesitation. He leaves behind a family strengthened by his example, their hearts forever filled with the echoes of his laughter and the warmth of his embrace. We give him our flowers now, as we remember and celebrate a gentle soul whose legacy will live on, rooted deeply in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
